Amp to play music from laptop

I am looking for an amp to hook up to my laptop to play music. What sort of wattage should I be looking for? and can anyone recommend an amp. I have been looking at this one AMP - SANSUI R-7 STEREO AMP RECEIVER - VINTAGE - VGC!! | Stuff For Sale | Gumtree Cottesloe any thoughts?

You can use any amplifier like you would use with a normal stereo , the output of your sound card may be a little lower than a cd player by comparison but it´s very close(impedance should be close to 47-50k).What you need to mach is the amp and the speakers , if you tell us what speakers you have (how many watts and ohms) we can tell you if that amp fits.If you want to use it for background music any 5-10 watt amp will do

Thanks, I don't have any speakers yet so I am wondering about them too. Unfortunately those ebay items are not near me. Could you recommend any speakers?

Any of these should be a good choice , but they all are 5.1 amplifiers

for 150$ there are lots of amps you can buy just check ebay and you will see , if you are limited to the choices on that site those were the best i found

Laptop does not give good sound because of its audio quality, as the sound card or whatever, in the computer is a compromise for low price.

i´m sure by the budget he has he´s not expecting nothing high end , just listen to music from the portable.

Any decent amp you choose should do fine , just make sure if the board is stereo or 5.1 to choose amp and match with speakers (impedance mainly), most amps deal fine with 4-16 ohms

I bought these High quality technics speakers SB CD120 | Stuff For Sale | Gumtree Shenton Park and was looking to match them with this amp (sony str de495). How do you think that will work? I think maybe the bass will not be great?

probably you will need a subwoofer , the speakers and the amp i think there wont be any problem, just check if amp ohms for example if in amp says 4 to 8 ohms and speakers are 4 ohms or 8 it´s ok

Is the amp the reason I would need a subwoofer? Do you think I should go for that amp or hold off for something else? It is $40.
