Most speakers, even the good bookshelfs won't go below 40 to 50 Hz and audio goes down to 20Hz. Smaller the speaker, lower is the bass response.

if your amplifier ( or Laptop ) has dsp with crossover , set the sub to do below 80-100hz choose what sounds better to you , that will relief the woofer from lowbass and improve midbass.
I am more interested in your thoughts on the Amp? is it better to get a designated audio amp? Also what do ye think of the speakers?

For 40$ i would buy it for sure , the speakers for the price (10$) are ok , but they wont do low bass.
If you want to get low bass you will still need a active subwoofer (with it´s own amp).
For what i´ve seen in the manual you can have 2 sets of speakers + 2 surround + center + sub connected to that amp , so all you need to go is the active sub.

that amp as lots of possible configurations , if you have the active sub one thing you can do is keep the bass level at 0 (unchanged) that will relief the main speakers from heavy bass , on the active sub amp you can then choose the level of bass and the crossover frequency
