250W Power Supply for mobile Speakers

Hello everyone,

a problem occuring for everyone building portable speakers is the management of the supply.
State-of-the-art are lithium-batteries, thus, a kind of management system, so called BMS is required.
Most of the available BMS are "China"-solutions, cheap, but reliability might be an issue.

Same goes for DCDC-Converters, there are dozens of 5€-ebay-converters, and few converters with well known and non-fake components.

As a result, we decided to build those components on our own.
The "energy management system", EMS, shall include:

  • BMS for cell-management and balancing a 4S-Liion-Pack
  • a dedicated, up to 4A charge controller for the freedom of using different AC-adapters, solar cells, external battery-packs and so on
  • a DCDC-Converter for a boost up to 34V@150W without heatsink, and 250W with heatsink.

To drive things further, an option to use envelope-tracking to controll the DCDC-output voltage will be implemented. Furthermore, a simple SoC-display with 5 LEDs will be included.

At the moment, the schematic design is 80% done, some layout-preplacement is already done too.
We will use a 70µm-2-Layer board with dimensions: 65x140mm

If the project is successful and the bugs are cleared - a small batch of production might be possible, prices are tbd.
