"new" ESS amt unpack

Hi all
Mostly DIY peop is Curius of nature.
So I thought i would give a little back and share my unpack and other stuff.
So here we go:
new ESS amt unpack - Album on Imgur

This is planned to end up with the Pass INT-150 driving the Old ESS and some Accuphase Driving the New ESS stuff when that is finished.
But still need some active woofers, cabinet, and off cause to build a crossover to fit the new ESS.
Btw the old ESS is with Anilco magnets and silver wiring internally/externally so it will be exiting to hear the new ESS with Ceramic magnets when I can place them side by side and listen to them and compare using a switch and the Pass INT-150.

Hope you have been entertained

don't do this to me

I'm sucker for speakers...... fighting with idea how to obtain a pair of biiig AMT, even if I really do not need more speakers than I already have

:bawling:

btw. nice to see old Singer cabinet still used .......... and boat is glorious

Yeah you always need one more speaker and more space and one more speaker and more space and....
Fill out the blanks 😛
Btw i am looking around for a speaker cabinet without speakers like the ones i have or a monitor enslosure could do it.

I recently noticed that ESS is selling AMT Heil drivers much like the original
ones that I worked with at ESS in '72.

The price was very reasonable.

So I got on their site and bought a pair. I got a call from Ricky the owner,
and he was sufficiently delighted that he also sent me 2 pair of AMT's of
identical construction but different heights.

They are very nicely built, and I am looking forward to playing with them
soon. When I do I will write them up. In the meantime, I recommend
them to anyone lusting after the original Heils.

Did I ever mention that I met my wife Jill at ESS? She was folding the
diaphragms...

I've told you about thinking of them , especially considering price, when I was at SR

can't say that I'm in core of that , but from sorta quick glance of that particular, I believe 1K5 is doable , both for 12" ER driver and for AMT

not expecting insane SPL of course**, just extra decent Geezer's fun, as suits me perfectly

**so that Xo and say 12db/oct should do

I've seen recently re-lived and new threads about AMT, so fresh info is available

"though strangling AMT to KEF efficiency level seems sorta sacrilege"

absolutely right ZM

That's why I did isobaric woofer for Heil - never followed up with KEFs 🙁
then moved on to ACI Saphire II with powered Titan subwoofers
then tried to clone Nelson's Rushmore's (loved that cabinet)
now Tannoys which I love 😀
That covers 45 years give or take as my mind recalls:violin:

Best to you guys

I heard the ESS AMT1 in the 70s and remember them sounding very bright and badly mismatched with their woofers. They were well ahead of their time, mostly good for showing up just how bad the amplifiers of the day sounded. Would probably be nice to play with nowadays.
