SJEP120R100 on ebay: are these the real thing?

People lucky enough to get some from the GB should only buy/use them for their hobby.
We WILL keep a very close eye if someone resell them for a quick profit.
We can tell which FETs come from us.
Those people won't have a 2nd chance with us in the future.

And I'll post an alternative for people to build without unobtaniums later this year.
Same topology, different devices.

Cheers,
Patrick

This is a novice question, but could these work in the current F6 diy boards in the store? If not, what modifications would one need to make?

Not sure, but the reason for IRFP240's over semisouth was because it was determined by Nelson and his crew of listeners that the amp sound best with 240's. At least that is what I thought I read years ago. If the pin out is the same you probably could but some changes in other component values around the mosfet might need to be made.

Ah, good to know – thanks! This thread made me take another look at the F6, and I'm definitely considering giving it a go.

I went through the process of Testing for some "SemiSouth"
that I acquired.

Following the instructions from the inventor I went through
the following steps to test if they were real:

Now that Nelson has confirmed what they actually look like,
from the pic posted above, I know, and now you know what
pics of a fake "SemiSouth" looks like and how to give it
a quick and dirty test with your meter.

Hope this saves some folks from getting burned.

Cheers,

Where were these sourced?

WOW!
This has to be deal of the millenlium !!!!!!!!!

IJW120R100T1 (and not SJEP120R100) was a SiC JFET by infineon which is already obsolete.
https://eu.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Infineon-Technologies/IJW120R100T1?qs=Du9m/J9cwrKdAsCBEB6txA==
There are still 70 pieces to be had at Mouser, for ~30USD each.
But the interesting thing is that it needs a negative Vgs of -13V for say ~1A bias.
Plug it in a circuit designed for the Semisouth with Vgs ~+1V, you will get a bias of ~110A.
Guarantee to blow the hell out of everything connected.
😁

BTW, this is how the real thing looks like.
Not even close.

Good thing I bought mine at the old price.

What's the best way to verify that they are the real thing once I have them in my hands? I don't have a transistor curve tracer or tester, but I guess I could make some simple setup with a variable bench PSU and a DVM. Any pointers?
I bought mine from Semisouth directly, so I've had them a minute. Bought another set here in a group buy. Glad I did, when I did!
