Ok ok, I've searched for an hour and can't seem to find a comprehensive list of DIY compatible monitors. I've seen several attempts to start them but nothing sticky at all and most of the threads go off topic.

I would like to start a sticky list...Moderators can you make this stick please?

If everyone would post what they know about monitors that strip well, have good specs and DO NOT have the FFC issues I believe it would help this forum tremendously. If the monitor has an FFC issue that is fixable that would be acceptable information as well. It would be great to only post about known monitors in this thread, please keep it on topic folks, thanks.

I'll post what I know about..

Che Mei corporation:
CMV1515
CMV1512
Also known as: LiquidVideo NEG A150X1 available at circuitcity.com

These panels are:
500:1 contrast or higher
15ms response
XGA resolution
15" vertical

These monitors strip easily but the FFC cable will only allow the controller board to be positioned 90deg to the panel, fine for an enclosure but could be bad for an OHP.

Compaq tft 450

O.K. Pulled apart the display. Good instruction off the H.P. support site. Monitor however not compatible for OHP use. Controller board plugs into secondary board that uses 4 seperate, ver short ribbons to connect to LCD on three sides of panel. I think that I will try a custom setup, and just continue to use my 3M 6100 with OHP for now.

CTX Panoview 540 and 530's are good, 540 is better for video tho, easly stripped, would only use the 530 for desktop use and cartoons like futurama, that looks good on it.

640x480 both
530 = 9.5"
540 = 10.4"
contrast ratio 100:1, looks good projected
active matrix on both

cheers,
Ryan Edge

edit: i think it looks ok at 400" but if you dont like screendoor atall keep it smaller.

hi there.

just to clarify ... as model numbers can confuse...

the BenQ 567 V2 is the same as FP567 V2 ??

i saw the 567 + 567v2 were diy compatible.

BENQ 15inch MODEL FP567 Ver2 BLACK TFT MONITOR contrast ratio 450:1 response time 16ms

cheers & thanks

Will;)

From what I understand, only the 567v2 is Diy compatible.

I successfully used a Samsung 530TFT:
50 ms response
Size 15"
Pixel Pitch 0.297mm
Brightness 200cd/m²
Contrast Ratio 250:1
Viewing Angle 120/110° (H/V)

Disassembly was easy. There is a small board that connects the X and Y that obscures a small part part of the display.

I used it for DVD/Video and for gaming. Good for video and adequate for gaming. Response is a bit slow, but it is still fun for gaming with the big screen.

I used the accessory power on my PC to supply the 12volt input for the board/LCD. The setup is sensitive to bad grounding... I had to properly ground the display board and OSD board or the screen would wig out and act like it was out of sync.

Samsung 512n 15" LCD

I've now seen several of them stripped and it looked ridiculously easy. Nice long cables and no FFC issues. These often go on sale <$200 AR at the big name stores such as BestBuy, Buy.com, Amazon etc

Specs:

1024x768 xga
450:1 contrast
16ms refresh
.297 dot pitch
Analog RGB
140° horizontal and 110° vertical viewing angles
Built-in power supply

The BENQ FP731 17 in was a very easy strip.

LCD Size 17"
Display Area 13.3" x 10.6"
Brightness 260 cd/m2
Contrast 450:1
Response Time 25 ms
Pixel Pitch (mm) 0.264
Viewing Angle (H/V Degrees) 140/130
True Panel Resolution (Max.) 1280 x 1024
Display Color Palettes 16.2 million (With Dithering)
Input Signal D-sub
Horizontal Frequency (Max) KHz 31 - 81
Vertical Frequency (Max) Hz 56 - 76
