I’ll never forget The HitcherI'm big fan of one of the Greats - Rutger Hauer; he was not just an example of really talented and charismatic actor, but also example of hard working Man
Completely logical that this movie is always in back of my (ZM's Omnipreciousssss) mind - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070842/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_7_nm_1_in_0_q_turkish%20delight
besides, always glad to remember one of best scenes in entire moving pictures history .........
as far is anyone able to lurk in someone's public persona, that scene is epitome of his soul

How much better is it compared to an regular volume knob?
There's no competition, IMHO.
When you hear a preamp without conventional volume control you become aware of all the subtle maskings that occure during reproduction.
Think about window glass that is perfectly clean and flat. You'll be tempted to say you can see perfectly trough.
Now open the window and stick your head out. That's ZM's attenuator and that would be my description of difference.
Most neutral you can get for anny money. If you crave for some taste or sugar, you'll be pushed to find it in source equipment or in output amps.
Given that this is used as an attenuation device, then another form of it could be used a sort of amplification device as well? That has been on my mind for some time now.
it could
yes, as explained in several threads
see Iron Pre as example
transformer gain stage feeding an high impedance output stage?Given that this is used as an attenuation device, then another form of it could be used a sort of amplification device as well? That has been on my mind for some time now.
The story doesn't tell if it's metglas or finement.
But those details may kill the poetry of this thread.

Can't believe nobody has said it yet so I'll do the honours.
Fugly! (as usual for Mad Genius progeny)
Thanks for the review Papa! I think you should reverse-babelfish it ... or was it already babelfished from some of the things you brought to us? In that case, you should babel-babelfish it! 👽

Can you share the particulars?Lastly, here's a shot of one channel of the smaller version of the Beast with a Thousand Jfets...
![]()
1. K170/J74?
2. Rail voltages?
3. total JFETs per channel?
4 max power per channel before clipping?
Inquiring Beast builder wants to know!
For the masses, I am liking Patrick's J113 circlotron circuit. I am characterizing ~1000 pcs of J113 for this and other Beast builds.
