Like you see this chassis has lot of scratches. Is there a way to clean the aluminum and brass? Do I have to sand it? please I need your advise, Thanks in advance.
I haven't even started buying parts for my chassie yet. I was hoping to use one of the JBL Model 6006B power amps that I have, but I'm not sure if I want to anymore. The transformer in it put out 58V, and I have no idea how much current. Also, I don't know if this is some cool vintage piece that I shouldn't be tearing apart. Oh well.
BTW, I love those heat sinks Faustian. They got me to start searching for sinks. I would just buy some like you have, but I'd rather spend the money on a Transformer. I'm thinking of getting the Plitron toroid w/ dual 38V outputs rated at 750 Watts. This should work very well for a dual mono or balanced/bridged setup. Any thoughts anyone?
I'll get back to those other transformer calculations when I get a little more time.
Cheers

I'm sure you mean mr. porfi4ever, and not me...i don't even have heatsinks yet. but yes those are neat ones.
if i'm not mistaken, they are from MECI. they are US$10 a piece...really cheap. for the amount you're probably spending on that big Plitron transformer, $40 for heatsinks is a drop in the bucket. (i'm just guessing. how much is that Plitron anyway...i seem to remember the 300VA version being about $60.)
Francois is making a zen with 6 of those puppies. ******* huge!

Sorry Faustian. I do mean porfi4ever. MECI is selling those for $10.00 each, but I can do testing on cheaper ones for now.
As far as that transformer goes, it is less money than buying two of the 300VA transformers. If it's passing the same amount of power, and only puts out 2 volts more than the smaller ones, it should work pretty well. It's rated for even more power, so heating up and mechanical buzzing shouldn't be a problem. With the higher current rating, all of the chips will be able to get power a little easier. Also, the two extra volts output might just increase the headroom a touch. (Just guessing on this one).
If Mr. Pass is listening.............Will this work, or is this overkill?
Cheers............
As for getting rid of scratches, yes sanding works, but by hand it's hard and long work that leaves a non-uniform surface if your not really good at it (I basically suck). What I would do (and in fact do do) is go and pick up one of those circular bits for a hand drill that allows you to volcro sandpaper to it, slap that in your drill and sand that way, it's really cheap and works really well if you're on a budget.
As for your chasis, it's nice. I make mine similar to the way you did yours, but I've never used brass, I make my heatsinks out of aluminium so with brass it would clash, one day I'd like to try brass heatsinks, that'd be nice (thermaly it isn't up to par with Al, but it shure would look nice)...

Hello JoeBob and thanks for your reply. I'll get one of those that you mention and with respect to the heatsinks I got them from MECI , they are alumimum heatsinks.

Freakin' huge, that's the word. To give you an idea, the size is a bit bigger than a beer case of 24 bottles. The empty chassis weights around 50lbs. By the way, this is not 6 puppies but 8

Nice work porfi4ever !!
sorry for that horrible pic.. I spent all my mony in this amp, that mean I'm broke to buy(for now) a better camera.
