Is there a maximum or minimum length wire leads from the board to the MOSFETs can be?

the shorter it is the better.......my guess is it should not exceed 6 inches.

It depends on the circuit (impedance, frequency, etc.). I've run great drooping loops as long as three or four feet that worked just fine, and run into trouble with little dinky things an inch or two long.
When all's said and done, try it and see if it works, but as a general rule, yes, I agree, shorter increases your chances of getting away with it.

Try twisting the cables when they are longer. It helps prevent problems.
