Zaph’s ZRT

Tentatively I'd say no as long as you don't alter L8 too much. Perhaps try 0.4mH or 0.35mH for a bit more midrange than the stock 0.5mH. Or 0.6 or 0.7mH for less.

The side effect of not adjusting C10 also would be that the phase alignment between the woofers and tweeter will start to be altered. As the 2.5way crossover is a Butterworth alignment instead of the Linkwitz-Riley of the 2way, it is more sensitive to phase alignment. As you make an adjustment to the midrange level by changing L8, not only do you adjust the midrange but also cause a mild peak or dip at the crossover frequency / lower treble. It will also change the vertical polar response slightly - perhaps for the worse - which is probably why Zaph does not recommend any tweaks for the 2.5way as he worked hard to get the vertical polar response of that design to something he was happy with. With optimal vertical polar response the frequency response doesn't change between sitting and standing listening positions.

Thx TMM that’s exactly the range I was gonna try 0.47 -0.39 I will order some new inductors next week and give it a go. Will see how it works. In my opinion it needs a little more midrange presence. Thx for advice will let you know when how it sounds

I still fail to understand why you want to try to fix this with the crossover when you haven’t got a clue whether this could be related to:
- the cabinet and it’s acoustical properties
- the drivers and their directivity characteristics
- the placement and reflections in your listening room
- some other, possibly imagined issue

But I won’t try to stop your search anyway 😉 you could try this setup, though the tweeter is a different one. The setup is of a stunning simplicity, and if Rolph Smulders has had any involvement (I’m not sure though), the design would be quite Allright. Capital A.

Edit It is a Klang &Ton homebrewn design, here is the documentation.

Hi markbakk. It maybe one or all of those issues. For now as a starting point I’m beginning with the option of trying to tweek the upper crossover frequency that’s all. I want to see if I can make it sound more suitable to my taste I ve seen the crossover in Klang magazine and that’s precisely why I asked for help here hoping that someone has tried that minimalistic approach with this set of drivers.
