The other day, I got in for repair a Planet Audio HVT 754 4-channel amplifier.
The guy told me over the phone that the amp is dead and it has vacuum tubes in it.
I said "yeah...okay..."
Lo and behold, when I saw it I almost fell over!

There are 4 12AX7's in the front end. After much power supply resoldering, the amps works and the tubes light up so I know they're getting heater voltage although I have not yet stuck a scope on them to see if they're actually carrying signal.
Maybe you've seen this one before and it's no big deal.
I have never laid eyes upon such a beast.

I believe it. Some companies make a few potent amps and/or subs to get things rolling in the market and then start making the cheap clones for the masses. Usually asian companies like power acoustik, for example.
Those amps were made by Zed Audio back in the '90s. They are not that rare. The Planet Audio tube amps are on ebay all the time. In fact, there is an HVT-754 BNIB on there right now.
Having said that, they are extremely nice amps. Mr. Steven Mantz of Zed Audio fame occasionally visits this form. He's definitely a vacuum tube fan.

Yeah, I did see that 754 on ebay.
I guess they're not ar rare as I thought.
This one I have in the shop sounds pretty good
and the guy is real happy that I repaired it. Especially now after he's seen one or two on ebay go for $300-$400
