You all are to hard on new people....

I am new... I have read newbie posts. You all have your projectors and your expensive (in a DIY way) pieces. Some of us are just getting into this. We knew nothing about this except that they sell 150" pieces of plastic on ebay. We come here for more information and you expect everyone to read the posts that stray off topic every page. Then you expect us to know what we are talking about before posting. If it wasnt for the 150: piece of plastic I would have never cought the cheap projection bug. People need to experiment. Otherwise you all are the same as the guy selling the 150" TV from plastic, only your 100" TV can come out to over $200.

Yes we newbies are st00pid when it comes to this stuff. Yes there is tons of information on this site, and to me it's complete overload. I don't even know where to start buying pieces, because so much stuff isnt worth it, it's bright enough, doesnt refresh fast enough, has ghosting, etc, etc....

Yes your all very smart... yes your all good at all this except for one thing. Most of you forgot what it was like to be new at this. To me this seems like a growth process that each person needs to go through until they are comfortable plopping down 150 for a light bulb and ballast.

Even the sticky posts here seem to be full of fluff and off topic posts. Make something NEWBIES can understand. What is a good entry level group of pieces. What is a good high end group of pieces. Then a basic guide on what you need to make your own.

Telling someone to cut up an item they spent 8 bux on and throw it away isnt nice. It might be funny to someone that spent 300 on a bunch of c00l pieces to make his own. But everyone starts somehwere. Newbies start with 8 dollar frensel lenses.

We were trying to save another person from being SCAMMED by Maxtheater into thinking a TV and fresnel is going to get you a cheap projector. It's not and never will! Dont get your hopes up. Thats all. If your mad about the 8 bucks... well, I really dont think this project is for you. 8 bucks. Come on now.

Some are too harsh here. But remember this site is for DIY'ers to talk tech. You dont understand the tech its that person with the problem somewhat. Yes everyone starts somwhere but if the guys pioneering have to stop every two sentences to explain simple stuff like fresnels much less light polarity then maybe you need to start at the begingin-l;ike what is light, how does it travel-reflect what is refraction......these simple questions hold up the process of moving forward. THis is how experimenting is. Maybe we need a "special" newbie only section around here where folks can rehash what we did without us having to go through it all again. Folks get short tempers/frustraited you name it. Part of the process of taking on somthing pretty overwhelming. If ya cant handle it then dont get into it. Yes lots of info to digest but we all had NO ONE to tell us where to start. The info is already here but some want to be spoon fed everything. Im not trying to flaim but your post came off like you think this site is just for newbies to get el cheapo projectors. ITS NOT> Its about learning-and finding out what is best or better per $ per end result. And that isnt always streight cut forward answers.:whazzat:

Absolutely

I'm not saying you all not bright and very smart. I love the idea of doing something myself. I'm not here to get anything for free, and I dont want to buy someone elses projector. I want to eventually build one of my own. But I want to start from the ground up. That way I will learn more. But the start of this is with an $8 fresnel lens. I'm not mad at all about the $8 I spent on it. I dont even consider it a waste. I liked the low quality 5 foot blurry TV I had on the wall for the few minutes it was there.

To me, someone saying cut it up and throw it away is more of acome back when you know something. There are newbies everywhere. All projects have them, and some people enjpy helping and bringing new people into the fold. I also realize sarcasm does not travel well over the internet. Text does not carry voice inflection. I'm not ragging on anyone, just looking for a more straight line thead. I love the bumblebee projector that was built. But there is little information on how it was done or what the general layout it. If there is it is scattered all over this board and it's hard to put all the pieces together. Thats all I'm saying.

Kinda like trying to watch 4 movies, starting each one halfway into the previous one. You lose lots of pieces and putting them together can be difficult at best. I love this place and I'm sure I will be here for some time.

I totally understand why people new to the forum give up on searching and post questions that have been answered over and over again. It's DIYAudio's fault. The problem with this board is that everything is all in one forum. There are no sub catagories... and until they add them people are going to ask these questions over and over again and get mad when they get short answers.

Everyone is different.

When I first came to this forum, I knew nothing about building a projector, but I wandered over from being scammed by those *****es at Fags theater.... err, I mean Maxtheater.

I searched a bit first before I posted and started asking a bunch of questions. The search is not hard to use.

I think it's a cop-out when people make excuses for not searching and then ask questions like, "What's a Fresnel lense?" or "What's an LCD panel?"

Sure some people I have seen on here have responded like complete jerks which makes no sense to me, I mean this is the internet, cool out, ya know? But some people are just too high-strung......

Anyway, if someone has actually searched before they post a question, we can all pretty much tell because if they searched sometimes there will be a little bit of the answer in their question. If they did'nt search, which there is no excuse for, then the question will sound completely idiotic and that ****es some people off.

I personally could'nt care less if someone asks an idiotic question, but some people do.

All I know is, if I knew everything there was to know about these TV projects I would still be asking questions and still considering myself a student of the game. And that my friends is wisdom.

i must say i read more than post, i read this forum for 3months until i even botherd to ask a quesion, but when i started it was different, it was alot smaller and more organised, and i was more intruged into what i wanted to do and how the thing worked than to ask a question, but as i say when i started on here it was alot smaller and more organised.
Problems in here are realy this, people who do ask silly things when the answers are everywhere like what is a frensel ect and like others i dont realy care how stupid a question is it takes 5mins to answer, but some are rude on this, but on the other hand u do get grouches in here who just want to move forward and are highly strung, thats fair enough too in my opinion but i dont see it nice when people start to treat or talk tp the noobs like crap, luckily not manny of us are in here that are like that but u will have to learn that there are people in here like that as this is a public place, its just as good as being in a street talking about the same subject and all of a sudden some jerk will tell u to get ****ed lol, i am a person who wants to move forward and realy the way for me is being on the forum and off of it, i find out more through my own experiences doing my own thing than experiments conducted in here, thats not saying the experiments are wrong in here but there are manny different resalts for manny differnt aplications so realy the forum is like a libary, u search for the info u need and conduct your own experiments.
As for the tech of things in here this forum can save u money, the matter of the fact is even us pro people in here are still learning but on a different level, one bulb may seem good one day but another might be found to over power the old spec's, its like that in here, realy if u dont start from the start u are screwed, we started with loa lights and then leds and now we are onto all different kinds of metal halide lights wich far surpass the old lighting methods, thats just an example of tech in here, and the more we advance the more things will change for the better not for the worst, in the end saving the noobs more cash as they have the latest tech and specs of items to buy rather than starting out like the early birds in here who spent countless amounts on different gear to see wich works best, u noobs realy are lucky in that way but none of us hold that against u, but what we dont like is to go around in circles, JCB is right about diyaudio not giving us any subdirectors for the noobs and for different information catagorising but realy what is there to say JCB we cant do a thing in that lol, and i will also bring this up, from time to time we all have our little fights and misunderstandings in here, as i said this is a public place for all and no one thinks nor does things in the same manner so there is bound to be differences, ive had a few in here but i dont care i dont take it to heart, its the way of the world and somtimes we all need to have disagreements to move the step forward, either way this is a good forum and the people are great no matter the fights and ignorance, dont take it to heart, i sujest for noobs to atleast do abit of serching in what they want to learn in the matter and in a flash u will have the info, a good starting place is the thread for noobs wich tells u basically all u would ever need to get started and the places where to get the parts, another good source is the diy whikky wich is a pile of links all about anything to do with projection, once u get a small understanding on how things work then people will be abit more acepting on noob questions and would be happy to help but if u go asking questions like what is a frensel? then be prepared to not get a nice answer back, anyway all the best on your new projector, do some research around here and probally u will find u wont need to even post.

Best of luck
Trev

I think there is a lot of very useful information here but like any open forum, you will have to make the effort of picking out what applies to you. There will be people that knows everything and other that just type with one hand but you have to figure out what you are looking for.

You can search on keywords, why do you need the subcats? Did you ever complain to google that they don't have subcats? I think the problem is that people who search for more then a couple of 100 millisecs before finding the answer get tired and ask the stupid question. Being too lazy to do your own work, but blaming DIYaudio if the free answer doesn't come fast enough? Tough luck.

Do you understand that if you don't search and try to understand the other's post, but go for the quick and probably uncomplete answer to the stupid question, you will remain a beginner for many, many years to come?

Just some thoughts

I think sub catagories would be helpful. That being said I doubt they would help noobs...but maybe.

I see Fresnel come up here as an example a couple of times, so I did a search and came up with 412 hits, little overwhelming, yet there is a good definition by ace3000_1 in the noobies thread 2nd page.

I search because it saves me time, who wants to wait for someone to answer...

Sometimes when you first start you don't know where to start or what to search for so you search for the wrong thing and get the idea it is new....until you find out you were using a wrong term.

The thing about forums is it takes people to make them work, who knows which noob will contribute a big breakthrough (maybe because of a stupid question)

When I first started in Linux, some boards were rude, I went with the one that was most helpful, now I contribute, and I realize how dumb my questions must have sounded ( and how easily a search would have avoided it)

I found those who were rude were just proud of all they knew, It makes them feel like they are somebody to talk down to others and act all put out by having to answer such "imbecilic" questions.

If you think a question is dumb and doesn't deserve an answer, don't give one what is the problem? Those of us who want to see this board become more helpful will be helpful ourselves.

You draw more flies with honey than with vinegar.
