The point is that is has to be really narrow and has to have a really wide dispersion to match the ideal point source of the omnidirectional part.

Both the Decware and Linkwitz´s Pluto omnidirectional speakers employ a directional tweeter for the highs. This seems to be a good compromise between the "surround" imaging of the omni speaker and a better focused representation of higher frequencies. Especially if you can vary the relation between direct and reflected sound at taste as in the Decware RL 1.5
