hello , and thanks for noticing,,,I'm real new to the diy audio, but i'm determined, i would like to eventually end up building amps, for home use, as well as guitar , bass, and anything else that finds itself too quiet. I've done alot of looking and reading on where to start this adventure and i've decided that the pile of old vcr's, stereo amp and recievers, tv's, and other assorted no functioning goodies i have must be good for something?
What I'm asking is what can i make out of a bunch of old electronics? I realize thats pretty vague, or pretty stoopud,lol, but would someone be so kind as to throw me a bone !

ps- I have an almost brand new condition technics stereo amp,,the lights come on ,,but i cant seemto get it to output sound?,,,simple solution I'm overlooking?

I disagree. The electronics might not work for another reason than the parts you want. Given a LOT of research and some frustration at not being able to find datasheets, you can build whatever you want, and have it be of as high a quality as you can achieve with the components on hand.

I will say this, though. Save all transformers you can find. Even if a transformer is dead, if the core is still good, take it.
As far as like ICs or transistors go, I'm not one to use old technology, as I said above.

You can spend hours troubleshooting a problem, and overlook the obvious. Check these things:
1) Is the input selector switch set for the device you want to use?
2) If the amplifier has a tape output switch, is it activated?
3) If the amplifier has Preamp output and Amplifier input RCA jacks, is there a jumper between them?
4) If the amp has A & B speaker switches, are they both off?
My years of experience have taught me one thing ... if the power light is ON but there is no sound, you just don't have something connected right.
