Hello,
I'm debating whether or not venturing into changing the four coupling caps to my Yaqin MC13s. I would like to get a flatter response, a bit more midrange presence, as compared to my Kenwood KA7300 the Yaqin produces a slightly scooped response... Do you think caps would make a difference in that respect?
I don't want to spend more than €10 per cap and was leaning towards Audyn cap plus, but they are too big to fit! 🙁 2nd option was Jantzen Superiors but I've seen even Troels Gravesen (who seems to know them very well) is not so convinced about their use as coupling caps. so I'm ditching that option too
Other options?
-Russian PIOs k40s/k42, I fear they might as some say act as a filter and while giving a pleasant midrange response they may cut bass/treble
-K71-4 polystyrenes
I wonder if somebody has changed caps to this or similar amps and can share their experience.
Thanks

IMHO, no. It's probably more to do with the MC13's relatively high output impedance (in relation to the Kenwood) causing a mid-bass rise in your speakers. Changing the caps isn't going to fix that.

Who said they would act as a filter?

Yes, in the other thread you posted in.😀

Thanks for the answers
Space is cramped there, not much room to experiment.
VinylKid, thanks for your input here and on the other thread, I opened this one as I think the original poster put his in the wrong section and (we) will get little feedback.
I'll look into the impedance factor, anyhow, about PIO caps i've read people saying they are not transparent, still i'm intrigued... I may try them or the K71-4, although I think it would be hard to place them cleanly on the board

Hello! Were you able to notice any sound difference with the Jantzen caps? I know this may be hard to do without an A/B test...
If I end up swaping caps I will have as a reference how the Yaqin sounded stock compared to the Kenwood I have

Yes, mid sound better than the Yaqin blue stock caps. I did have 0.47uF Hybrid PIO capacitors K75-24 before but replaced with 1uF Jantzen Superiors Z that's where I got the same bass level as SS amp. 1uF is too big for Yaqin MC13s, 0.47uF is fine.
Thanks,
I find bass good with this amp, I'd stick to the stock 0.47uf. If I get Russian caps it would have to be the 250-400v ones, 630v units would be imposible to fit... but I only checked the underside of the amp, I need to lift the cover to see if on the top side of the circuit where the tubes sockets are there's maybe more room
