I think the last known price for those new from Yamaha was around $90 CDN - my cost! They were very good controls.
Note, you can disassemble them to clean properly. How's that for a cheap pot? 😉

Yeah anatech, when I had mine I think from memory it was capacitor coupled on the input for safety against ham fisted roadies, remove the cap, double up on the class A bias so it runs hot (50C on the heatsinks at idle) and this amp sings, with grunt to boot. And leave those beautiful (cheap, yeah right) Black Alps where they are and hook a cd player direct to the input and you have so called high end sound, this amp was very fast -3@200k for memory and stable to boot. And I think DC coupled once the input cap was removed.
Cheers George
alps...?
When l was refering to the pots as being "cheap" l was perhaps being to dismisive and to critical as l dont really have the tech knowledge to dismiss them at all when l think about it so ....please accept "sorry". As l mentioned before l was wanting to cut down on the amount of interuptions to the signal. It seemed that if l cound cut down the amount of solder joins and pots and used better signal cable then l would have a better signal as it would be more direct and less parts.
As to "wire" l have some Interlink 400 by montercable that l was going to use for input and cat five solid core in a 3x3x3 plat that l use for my speakers now.
l like hearing the idea of removing the signal cap and then changing the bias but l will need to try and learn more about how to do this as lm limited in my tech know how.
but at least l can go back and try and work it out!!
hanks again to all who are giving there time and coments as l reall look forwards to going to the net and loging on to see if anymore ideas have been posted ...so thanks again to all!!!!
