Thanks again! We have a gig this weekend but it sounds like I'd better figure this out or I could damage the "right channel" by plugging in a "mono" 1/4" TS jack. If indeed the speaker can output two channels (stereo) then the way I rewired the input jack a mono connector will short the right channel to shield and damage the right channel. Correct? Although you may recall that I noted earlier that there was a slight volume INCREASE when inserting a mono jack into the input versus inserting a TRS jack.
The Source may, or may not, be damaged by shorting it's output to signal ground.
Many Sources can tolerate this type of abuse.
You need to find out.

Thanks Andrew. I'm not as concerned about the source as our main mixer has mono unbalanced outputs. But should I be concerned about damaging the speaker amp(s) by shorting one channel (right one) to signal ground at the amp input?
An amplifier should never be damaged by shorting an input to signal ground.
That's what we do every time we turn the vol pot down to zero !

Excellent! ( I seem to remember that as being the case but I really appreciate the confirmation.) Then I don't need to panic about re-wiring the amp input jacks. I'll get at that next week and let you know what I find.
Thanks again!
Thanks again!
sorry for not mentioning the NL2 as it's not as commonly used as the NL4 or NL8...but what do i know.
Thanks. I'm beginning to piece together the original design purpose of these units with your help. As I recall they came from a bankrupt wholesaler who distributed DJ equipment. I think that would explain the two channel inputs and the Speakon connector for an extension speaker. Another indicator is that with the Balance pot panned completely right there is no sound from the main speaker. Assuming the Speakon is a NL4 with ability to output the right channel and since my intention is to use these solely for live performance sound reinforcement how could I configure the inputs to take full advantage of the apparent two channel amp?
