Hi Guys ,
I want to use a XLR connection for my amps and I am confused how should I connect the Pin 1 & Case , should it go to audio ground or the chassis earth.
there is a earth loop breaker between chassis earth & audio ground with a switch which can bypass the earth loop breaker and in that case chassis earth and audio ground becomes same.
regards
Phoenix

Pin 1 should be connected to the chassis right at the entry point. It should not be connected to anything signal related. Consider the cable screen connected to pin 1 as a physical extension of the enclosure.

shouldn't chassis earth also get connected to audio star ground ?Pin 1 should be connected to the chassis right at the entry point. It should not be connected to anything signal related. Consider the cable screen connected to pin 1 as a physical extension of the enclosure.

According to AES-48, pin 1 should be connected straight to the chassis. The chassis can then be connected to the internal circuitry at one and only one point.
If everything is balanced and AES-48 compliant, ground loop breakers should not be necessary. You will get lots of ground loops, but they will do no harm. If you have a mixture of balanced and unbalanced connections, or balanced equipment that is not AES-48 compliant, then things get complicated. You will have to draw the ground loops and think about which can and cannot harm you then.
