Hey guys it me again,
Everyone says that a 400 watt MH will not deliver quality brightness for my LCD (IO Data, 1024x768)
Anyone know where I can find a Xenon Arc Lamp at a reasonable price? Im not talking about those cheapo car headlights. I mean REAL Xenon fixtures.
Thankyou for your help-

I don't know why everyone has been telling you 400w MH won't do the job. I find that the brightness is adiqute but of more concern is the the contrast ratio of your lcd. See the Contrast and Brightness thread for more info. I think the only luck you are going to have with finding xenon lamps for a resonable price is to maybe contact yhw, something I might be doing shortly myself.
400w MH should be fine. Especially if it's a newer pulse-start ceramic MH bulb. Even an old 400W MH should work.
I have tried several MH setups, and I am impressed with the results. Some bulbs are better than others, but all are better than Halogen. All you need to do is find a small bulb with enough lumen for your means. I'm running 'only' 150W at the moment, and the 12000 bulb-lumen are enough to get good brightness+contrast in a dark room on a 100" screen.
One thing that people forget is that wattage isn't directly proportionate to the light output. Look at the lumen rating. Another thing, the best 1000w MH in the world isn't going to be all that great with a crappy or no reflector. Make sure you get a semi-spherical one.
Real xenon lamps are also very dangerous, you need protective gear whenever you go near them, and even this is not sometimes enough...
I have a very good friend who was blinded in one eye when a xenon bulb he was changing exploded, firing shards of glass through his protective eyeware...
