I'm looking to buy an inexpenisve stereo reciever with about 30-50 watts per channel and a 250 watt plate amp. I want to spend less then $75 on each of them. I'm also looking to buy a pair of CSS FR125S if anyone has some laying around their not useing.
I'm sure I could send you a good receiver for that price. Are you parting it out or do you plan to keep it whole. Just asking to find out whether cosmetics is an issue.

I won't be parting it but cosmetics is not an issue as long as it is functional. Right now I am just looking for good clean power, I'm going to be using an ipod as my source unit so I just need a reciever which is at least as good as the source. I'm also not sure if every reciever has pre-outs but pre-outs would be a huge bonus as I'm planning on hooking up a sub.
Most older receivers have tape in/out rca's on the back panel. You should be able to use the tape out for the sub. Look around at your local thrift stores/ used audio shops for a receiver or even an integrated if you don't need the AM/FM function.

I checked the local thrift store and they only had surround recievers for about 150 each so I figures I'd try the web and see what people are selling here. Avoiding the middle man is always a good thing too.
Well there's always tons of stuff on ebay. I was given a Technics SA-300 a few birthdays ago. It works very well driving my comp. speakers. It's rated at 35w/ch.

Theres a couple technics sa-300 on ebay that I could probably pick up. Do you reccomend it? Does it have pre outs for a sub?
One question of the tape in/out. I think the tape out pre outs are for tape recorders so would the voltage of the pre-out change with the volume of the reciever or is the pre-out constant voltage. If it's constant voltage it wont work for a sub.

The Technics SA-300 sadly doesn't have pre outs, too old and too low on the audio totem pole I'm afraid. It doesn't even have pre to amp jumpers. I don't think many receivers from the 70's had them, maybe some of the integrateds. I used an old NAD 3020 for it's preamp only for a couple of years (early 80's) with a Hafler DH200.

You're right about the tape outputs being fixed voltage. It would only work if your sub amp had a gain control of some sort, and then you would be up and down adjusting the volume, kind of a PITA.
This is starting to sound like a dead end unfortunately.

I think I may have found what I was looking for. Someone is selling a HK AVR-300. The front and center channels generate noise but the rear channels work perfectly and it has pre-outs for a sub. The person selling it actually used it as a stereo reciever for some time. I'm not sure how much these cost new but he wants about 60 dollars. I think this is reasonable as I probably wont find any stereo recievers within my budget that have preout's. I also get the added bonus of possibly being able to fix it down the road and having a suround reciever.
I'm still looking for a plate amp and the speakers if anyone has them or you could let me know if you think I may be getting swindled.

Looks like the AVR-300 sold for approx. $550 US new, so $60 sounds ok with two good channels and sub outs (as long as they work).
You can buy a new 75w plate amp from Partsexpress for $90, or 100w
for $95 at Creative Sound. Used should be substantially less.
