I just received a brand new NOS Dual 1219 (without plinth) and I am working on getting it up and running. It deserves a good cartridge so I’m looking for some of the below cartridge options:
Ranked in order:
Shure m91ed
Shure m95ed
Shure V15 type IV
Shure V15 type V
Open to other recommended options if the price is right (OM20, Pickering XV-15, or Shure M97xE)
Im looking to spend anywhere between $50 up to $150 depending on the cartridge and stylus. Might be open to multiple cartridges for the right price.
I’m located in Houston, TX.

The Dual 1229 that I used to own in 1974 I fitted with the Shure V15 Type2 Improved.
It was the best mating of perfection to my younger ears.
A shame, that turntable got stolen from my first apartment in 1982..... along with a 1219.

I have an ADC 660 for sale on ebay. Vintage 1963 ADC Stereo pickup cartridge and stylus | eBay
You'll need to get a new needle for it - about $20 on ebay also. If you can put that together, for ~$65, you'd have a vintage 1963 ADC transcription cartridge for your vintage TT. At that price, you could have two different units to compare, considering your budget. Thanks.

That's a sensible option, the A-T.
Outdated/vintage carts like Shure, Stanton/Pickering, etc., all now require non-original maker styli, and I have my doubts towards that. (nothing against Gary Stork- VM's offerings, he's a great supplier)
Ortofon's never tickled my ears, too "dry" sounding.
He should buy a new, current cartridge. You don't put 70 year old tires on your classic Chevy.
And most of those mentioned used cartridges are listed at rather high prices on ebay.

I agree with that.
I've got a "like new" Stanton 681EEE "Calibration Standard" in a box, along with a 680EE...... both with original styli.
I bet I could get a sweet price for them, but I don't do Epray.
I've got a "spare" Dual 1215 in flawless condition, installed an older AT95E on it, and it performs surprisingly well.

Stanton 681EEE is a great cartridge.
Btw... got a Goldring 920IGC with a brand new Jico Shibata (never used) aftermarket stylus lying somewhere, maybe waiting for a new owner 🙂
