I've got an Aleph 4 - An impressive amp and it's good all the way to 100W in Class A, but it is HUGE.

Are you sure you really need 400W.

The Alephs do have the more tubey sound to them, if the F5T is like the F5 in character then that might be too clinical for you.

You might like to do what I am trying.

The bass needs the power but not extreme quality 250W of good Class A-A/B will be OK here, maybe even Class D.

The mid-range is where the human ears are most sensitive, not so much power required here, this is where my Aleph 4 fits in.

The highs do need a good quality amp but at only 1/10 of the power of the bass amp - 25W or so.

Price wise, for even a 100W Class A amplifier you are looking at well over £1000 and that's using second hand components.

The copyright laws can be interpreted in different ways.

Nelson Pass is quite happy to share his ideas for personal use, if you get a friend to help you build one for yourself then that may be OK. If someone makes financial gain out of the project then that infringes the copyright. (At least in the UK it would).

Buy them from Pass!

Bassfeen,

Unfortunately, if you're not interested in building them yourself, I would strongly recommend contacting Pass Labs or any of their dealers about buying completed products.

As an alternative, you might consider watching eBay or Audiogon as folks in this hobby do tend to upgrade. Buying on the secondary market allows the previous owner to "move up the food chain" so to speak, and hopefully they will contact Pass Labs and buy the latest product.

Nelson is VERY generous with the DIY community. It would be wrong to take advantage by building and selling his designs without either licensing them or going through one of his companies. We have his blessing to build the stuff he shares FOR OUR OWN USE.

Hopefully you'll decide to jump in and tackle them yourself. There's a ton of experience on this forum and we're happy to help if you need it. YOU CAN DO IT!

Finally, you might consider the parts that the DIYaudio store offers. One can build a Pass Aleph fairly easily from the parts that are offered.

Welcome to the forum!

Happy Holidays,

Steve
