I have an old V15VMR that needs a stylus. What opinions on bringing this back to life?? I have been using low to med price <1000 carts for years now. Would someone consider this a SOA MM cart these days? That would of course have to consider after market stylus also. What about Soundsmith with this cart also. Chime in...

Does anyone know what I might be able to get out of it w/o a stylus?
'Not a lot' is the likely answer!
The value is in the stylus.
A V15VMR body under auction currently stands at $42 after 3 bids and with four days to go.
The "line contact" tracking is better, but the sound is different,
and some prefer the spherical for that reason.
Then they really like high frequency distortion, literally..,
Put on a severe Orchestral score with lots of strings and the sound gets bunched together since it starts bouncing from edge to edge out of control
Midrange and lows they can handle easily, but not full spectrum
Peter Lederman talks about this in one of his videos of tip profiles. He explains it well and shakes his head when they come up
You will never find a Koetsu, Dynavector, or Lyra ever producing a cart with a conical tip for good technical reasons, that is 60,s technology
