Worth Replacing NE5532P with Signetics NE5532AN (or other)?

I have a low cost mic pre-amp (not a critical component in my studio) that looks fun to mod a little bit. I can't afford to put much time into this and shouldn't invest a lot either. The NE5532P is really easy to get to and I've read on the forums here and elsewhere that the Signetics NE5532AN is a better choice that the existing TI part.

Is it worth the effort to swap the two? Also, I haven't had much luck finding the data sheet for the Signetics part; is it a drop-in replacement (even with the data sheet I'd need a little hand-holding/advice as I'm not confident in this area)? I'd also be interested in in any other suggestions for drop-in replacements for the TI part.

Thanks!

Thanks for putting up with the noob questions. If I'm reading the data sheet correctly, I'm connecting the capacitor from pin 4 to pin 8. Ceramic disc will be ok, right?

There should already be capacitors from V+ to ground and V- to ground but if not I can add additional 100 nf caps for this purpose...

If someone has a moment to explain, what's the function of the cap from V+ to V-? Does it stabilize the current a bit?

Again, thanks for the noob info. I'll pass it along to another noob once I've mastered it. 🙂

Please use film caps.
