Worldwide falling intelligence levels & the onset of "cable mania", coincidence?

A criticism of IQ tests had always been that they test our ability to pass IQ tests and aren't a reliable measure of IQ (if such a thing can be measured).
You can increase your score on an IQ test by taking a cognitive psychology course. You can lower it by getting a crappy night's sleep before the test. That in and of itself doesn't make IQ testing invalid. It just adds test-retest variability, which should be considered when talking about intelligence testing.

Did you know that overall IQ scores are steadily increasing? The scores have to be periodically adjusted to keep the mean at 100. By our present numbers, people 100 years ago would test out as marginally impaired.
That's known as the Flynn Effect. But does that mean we're getting more intelligent or just better at answering the type of questions that are used in IQ testing? 🙂

I'm not a fan of AI either.
I read they baited, then dumbed down the public port just when they offered their "for business" version. Cant just give away what someone could be paying for! And God knows if the free version is any good at all, no one's going to pay anything for a little bit better. Answer? Make the free version useless; that'll get 'em lined up with open wallets.

My wife has an old friend who resides in Southern California, (near Disneyland?)...we stopped by once so she could re-connect...her husband is a world-class microbiologist. Unfortunately, he was raised in an ultra strict academic Jewish household...fully devoid of "little-boy skills"...has his clothes set out for him by his wife, needn't be distracted by knowing how to operate a clothes-washer. I Googled him....quite the resume, too bad he doesn't know which end of a screwdriver to grasp..."Marcello Tolmaski"...funny.

You remember that pic from the ad from some technical college, where the gal was holing the soldering iron, which was WAY too big for the computer motherboard she was “working on”….. by the business end…..

I just had one of those senior moments today/yesterday where I tried to use something else in my hand to open the door lock. After I specifically told myself to go get the KEY. I blamed it on the pain killers I had at the surgery center today. But the fact of the matter is I’m not THAT stoned from it this time.

I lost interest on the first page of this thread, probably owing to the fact that I'm 2 glasses into a bottle of hearty wine, so haven't even read both pages. 🙂. Ironic, but I still wanted to comment with a funny anecdote produced by my 8-year old son upon my regression from an iPhone to a "dumb" phone. His response was to first call it an "intermediate phone" because it has a calculator and then to call my wife's iPhone a "dumb-maker" phone.

Ha ha ha...reminds me of a couple of weeks ago when I came to the front door of the house with my wife both with hands full of shopping and aimed the car key remote at the house door.
