AIN'T OVER YET!
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
Just received the new drivers, will be interesting!
I would take you one a bet without any fear given you let them play for more than 2-3 minutes and not 8 seconds each...
WHAT IF... what if...
You identify the amps, 10 times out of 10... But you prefer...The icepower! 😛
don't say it's impossible, etalon90... One thing i learned in the few last weeks: everything is possible!
... a f***** Dayton RS225...
You're killing me not throwing in an Eton and PRV... oh wait the test are going no where so maybe not.

i need more golden ears, not more drivers! 🙂
but seriously, let's see after the source/DAC is changed, along with the nanoDigi. And, why not, the amplifier...
Still summer, folks. Audiophile's season is not even started yet.

WHAT IF... what if...
There is no such what-if for me 🙂

Just ask him why he prefer the amp under test. If the reason is because the amp has good dynamic and/or resolution/separation, then it IS the icepower. If the reason is because the amp has less fatiguing sound, then it IS NOT the icepower...
That simple. You can hear it or you can't.
As for ICEpower, I find they do differ in sound considerably, depending on the model. The latest updates to the ASC series sound better to me than the older ASP and ASX modules.
This whole blind test made me think a lot in the last few weeks, and i'll go through it myself with some selected drivers:
finally i'll put up to test the ''mighty'' Voxativ AC-1.6, against:
Radian 950PB (if enough room in the Cube)
Visaton FR17 (opposite of Radian, the only one that fits)
Eminence Kappa 3010MB
4 extremely different drivers, to say the least.
IF i'm not able to distinguish the Voxativ, i'll probably redo all my home speakers. Maybe a line array of 3010MB and 3-way instead of 4-way.
The whole point of 4-way is to have a dedicated mid-mid driver. If i'm deaf, then i'd rather downgrade to 3-way and get a midbass that can make mid as well... 🙄

It is painful to see people keep saying amp doesn't sound different on abx /non abx testing.
Beside level matching (simple to perform), the sonic quality of individual circuit & parts within whole chain and the speaker matters and affect the final sonic output (abx or non abx).
A serious transparency(sonically) bottleneck in the chain will mask other part in the chain (in this case, amp is the observed object).
if amp doesn't sound different, try putting them in series. I have yet to find 100% transparent opamp of any kind of arrangement, and capacitor.
However some speaker arrangement shows less audible (various) distortion in the electronic chain and also they do it not by masking it in their own distortion. Other speaker arrangement mask audible distortion by distorting/muddying it.
Hope this helps some who are really skeptics.

I would say an amplifiers ability for dynamics, which is current related and not measurable with distortion, would have an affect on a drivers signature. Would it be significant for this testing? I can't answer that for single drivers. With a full speaker, yes, it would.
FINALLY
I got a first driver that i'm not able to EQ from 360-7.2khz.
The Eminence Kappalite 3010MB
http://www.parts-express.com/pedocs/specs/290-667--eminence-kappalite-3010mb-specifications.pdf
Since i was able to do some magic with the Dayton RS225, i thought why not with a Pro 10'' ?
Well, i tried. But, no.
Got a ridiculous high-shelf +15db on the thing and still no sign of anything above 5khz. There is simply NO traction whatsoever. And i'm perfectly on-axis...
Well, the good news is i found some limits.
Next one to go through the EQ: the ''mighty'' Voxativ AC-1.6

Triing to EQ outside the usable frequency range ( 3,6khz) is futile in the context of this test IMO.

well, that's the case for many of them so far.
That is the first and only one that i'm not able to EQ.
Actually, even the EQ ''agressiveness'' is pretty low in all other cases.
Still,
How about you pass the test with it, Tom ?
Gonna be a walk in the park to identify a full 360hz-7.2khz against a missing ½ octave, isnt it ?

Yup. I should keep it and go on with the first round of the test with that.
The first round called ''Are you deaf? What?''

How? You don't think we have all heard these b.s. theories a thousand times. Science shows you guys are all full of c**p. 🙂
