Working with commercial LCD projectors

Hi there. Long time no post.

I decided to stop experimenting with this DIY stuff and go commercial. I've been bidding on MANY broken projectors on ebay and selling them (making quite a profit!) I've sold about 4 projectors now.

The last one I sold was an EPSON POWERLITE 5000XB for $611 (paid around $300)

I bought it broken. Problem: Disconnected thermal sensor.

After I recieved the money for the epson I found myself a "broken" Proxima PRO-AV projector on ebay for $600. very nice, XGA, component video, 1600 ANSI lumens. Came with hard carrying case, remote and cables. Excellent cosmetic condition.

This is an industial projector. Weighs 40 lbs

When I recieved the near 75 pound package and opened it, something was screwy. I noticed it looked a little different from the picture on ebay. So I hooked it all up, and it powered up and started projecting a signal!!

What happened is they were selling several of these units

AND SENT ME THE WRONG PROJECTOR!!!

Now I have myself a very expensive commercial lcd projector. i feel sorry for the poor guy who bidded on the working projector that i recieved!

So now, instead of experimenting with panels and lenses, I am moving my focus to finding a less expensive way to change the 400w metal halide lamp that the projector uses.

Either to somehow shine the light from a bigger lamp into the lamp compartment or finding another way to aquire the arc tubes.

I found out that the metal halide arc tubes used in projectors are called HMI lamps.

What makes projector lamps so damn expensive is that they come in specialized lamp modules that includes the cold filter. Every time the lamp needs changing, you have to throw away that nice cold mirror. Why not just keep the mirror and change the bulb????

IMHO you are an ******* if you are not going to call the seller and tell that they sent a wrong projector and sort out the mix up.

I just removed few days ago the old UHP lamp out of the reflector/cold glass-package (it was not hard, it was "glued" to the reflector with a some kind of gypsum that was quite easily broken) and I am going to try to find a HID that I can take out of its safety glass and insert to the reflector and attach it with gypsum.

Regards
HB

auction action

A friend of mine once bought an old 5ton army truck at a crown assets auction, we were both in the Army at this time. He won the bid at 1600.00 canadian dollars....1 5ton truck with balloon desert style tires complete with a SEV kit on the back. Inside the locked SEV kit was two BRAND NEW Bombardier Alpine snow mobiles (single ski dual track winter work horses). Did he give them back? NO WAY!!!! Auctions are a "Buyer/Seller beware" form of sales. If you don't know what you are selling....don't sell it...if you don't know what you are buying?....well then don't buy ....

If only my wallet had been a little fatter it would have been me sitting with around 20 some thousand dollars worth of snow machines 🙁 And yes...I called my buddy an ******* for not selling me one really cheap

My point is that most auctions are "As is Where is, all sales final" The government went to a lot of trouble to track down the 2 snow machines...asked politely if my friend would "GIVE THEM BACK" in front of the Base Commander. My friend very calmly pulled out his purchase contract from crown assets, the JAG looked it over and told the base commander to "stop bothering this man" "he has done nothing wrong and is under no obligation to return items that he purchased legally". If the world needs to be a "Buyer Beware" sort of place...then it follows it should also be a "Seller Beware" sort of place.

I bought a Shark (24 foot sailboat) a few years ago. $1000.00 Canadian, on trailer with full compliment of sails plus a 4HP mercury outboard. Total worth for the package deal? around $10,000.00 canadian. The guy had NO CLUE as to what it was worth....was it my obligation to tell him he was sooo low on his price? NO CHANCE! I handed him cash money...got my reciept hooked up to my truck and was gone in a flash!

Justinjay...enjoy your good luck and your new PJ.
