I just happened to open this thread today. Sorry about vet bills...
Since you have great experience with monopole subwoofers, and obviously have some, why not just use dsp like minidsp 2x4HD to start trying different crossover settings and placement. M&L concept is good but dsp will really make it work right! Stereo SW is needed to be able to set xo up to 200Hz, and delay adjustment is needed to minimize nulls.
Dipole subs are difficult to get working in mid/small rooms (might work well in your hall) and I actually haven't even tried them. Closed box SW sounds very good, but settings with dsp take lot of time and measurements.

Thanks, it's been a rough month but I think I'm on the right side of things now and I'm spending a bit more time catching up with projects and such.I just happened to open this thread today. Sorry about vet bills...

Yesterday I actually purchased a pair of Fane Sovereign Pro 12" woofers that I'm likely going to just stick either underneath the ESL panel in a conventional layout. I'm aware this isn't the "optimal" setup but it should work fine for my needs. The manufacturer recommends a 2ish cubic foot ported box tuned to 50hz so I might try that as a starting point. I modeled it in WINISD and it looks promising for the frequency range I want to hit.

Since starting this thread I pia Dayton 4X8 DSP unit and integrated it into my setup to run my Martin Logan Aerius speakers fully active. I am going to do the same thing with these large Quest panels and ditch the passive crossover idea completely.
Your project is very interesting and not like anything I've really seen before. I'm going to have to take a better look at your thread once I get a chance.

The Dayton DSP is great value. I just wonder with its budget price if the ADC/DAC and output stages are budget sounding. Has it changed the sound on the MLs?
I find it more clear and coherent than it did before if I'm honest. It probably helps somewhat when you bypass that pile of fat resistors, caps and inductors. I haven't seen a lot of people using it so others might have different experiences but I'm totally sold on it, fantastic little unit. The Dayton DSP is great value. Old ML speakers kinda sound crappy without at least going active on the woofers, that's my $2 anyway.
