I heard wine barrel speakers with a bass in the end some years ago at Burning Amp Festival. They needed some help IMHO. I'm not an expert. It might bd possible to tunr them properly.
Here in Florida that is illegal. No wait, that is if collecting rainwater 🙂 Seriously, it'd probably work, but you may have vibration issues and the need to add braces.
On a sadder note, wasn't there literally a burning man (suicide) at last year's Burning Man festival? Not to be confused with the recent idiot and the Molotov coctail. 🙁

@HeyBill.Yeah. I've heard that too. I'm also wondering if wooden drums like congos or the like would be worthwhile considering.
Maybe use glass fibre matting to line the barrel and seal it up / lock it all together. (It would probably shrink and develop air leaks as it dries out in a home ? )
I've seen it a photo of a two way speaker using a Dayton DC160 woofer and DC28F tweeter, in a post some years ago. It wasn't a real wine barrel, just one of those ornamental things which people try to put port in. No idea how it sounded, etc.

Barrels do dry up and leak like a sieve until wet again. I speak from experience. You'd need to seal it.
I would pull the iron rings holding them together, glue joints and reassemble.
Then they should be at least as rigid as a normal flat paneled one, if not better.
A curved section, an arc, a sphere or ovoid section is always way more rigid than a flat equivalent.
Unless birds and reptiles have gotten it wrong the last 200 Million years 🙂

The round profile does reduce diffraction. Don’t mount the drivers on the flat faces. That would be the worst diffraction as it is a round disk.
