Wood fibre coned woofers

JVC sure did.

These are the little 3.5" full ranges from a mini system. The drivers are actually rather efficient more than is typical for fullrange this size.
The HiFi reviews of these are pretty accurate:

Listenable, surprising bass warmth, slightly dark in the upper octave.
When comparing with something of a similar size, such as Tangband 3" and Monacor 4" SP40, the JVC woodies have a lot of midrange "bloom", slightly PA sounding bass (tight but not deep), and a seemingly smoothed sound, some nuances are lost.

But in isolation they sound good, pleasurable to listen to, so perhaps they have dominant 2nd order distortion?

I've seen the higher end ones around every so often; IIRC a 2 way and a MTM with slightly larger drivers and a wood dome tweeter.

The ceramic cone version, that looks interesting too, just as esoteric, and just as expensive to buy (they must be highly sought)

Sorry, Wushuliu, but I didn't have FR measurement capability at the time i built the Propensity. I do still have the drivers and xovers for that design, so I would likely be able to get something in that direction given some time. I have thought hard about rebuilding the design in a final cabinet as I really liked them, and it seems no one I've contacted via: seen, offered, or posted about; wants to take them off my hands. The 173 were much better than the whizzer cone 5.25" I used in the Fenghuang.

I've held the FR222 in my hands as they were a door prize for InDIYana this year from Solen. Big, heavy, beefy is what they are. I hope I get to hear them when the builder finishes them.

I used the FR151 in my Fenghuang build with the Airborne RT-4101. I had them in a sealed 0.25ft^3 box, and they did not like anything with deep or strong bass. I would think they'd be a great midrange. I used them with a 150uF cap in series and added a subwoofer and they were happy.

Later,
Wolf
