Is anyone aware of any woofers using wood fibres for their cones?
I am thinking of the type of (proprietary) woofers used by Dali in many of their highly acclaimed speakers.

cs,
At the risk of sounding silly 🙂, shouldn't any "paper cone woofer" have wood fibers in them, as paper wood pulp is used to make paper? (Edit: looks like others have mentioned this too while I was writing my post.)
Some more "esoteric" types also get mentioned like "papyrus fiber cones" (SB Acoustics Satori), "reed paper cone" (SEAS Prestige), or "bamboo cone" (certain Tang Band drivers).

Hemp is added to paper diffusers, banana is added to Fostex, Canadian spruce to Yamaha, another thing, and every developer says that this is to improve the technical parameters.
The Airborne cones are kind of an anomaly. Solen told me they were made from quartersawn Sapele veneer, but another source says that it's a man-made material and I can't recall the name of it. I have used the Airborne driver you linked there, Eric.
How do they sound? Quite good!

Not quite.
What Dali are using is a kind of compressed and quite coarse wood fibre material, quite distinct from the usual paper cones. They say that the uneven surface results in low top-end break up.
DALI OBERON 5 - A slim and elegant floor-standing loudspeaker
Their drivers are made by Vifa and are a version of this midwoofer - Vifa XT18WH09-08
Their drivers are made in-house.
This is clearly stated on their site.
To optimise timing, the speakers are fitted with acoustic damping material internally along the sides, top and bottom. This creates a more direct contact between woofer and bass port. The audible result is a more precise bass and increased ‘attack’ in the midrange.

This is clearly stated on their site.

These are clearly Vifa made drivers.

They clearly aren't.
The video on their site shows the drivers being manufactured in their own factory.
About us
They prolly do build there own drivers, some parts are prolly sourced from companys that make the parts they use as well as other manufacturers use as well, i.e. frames, spiders, surrounds, ect.
Parc audio sells wood cone drivers in various sizes. Never seen or heard them.
A pair of 15cm Wood Cone Woofer | Trade Me
Possibly available from Amazon or eBay?
Personally, I find paper, or Focal's Flax cone drivers, most pleasing to my ear. Given the $480 price tag in NZD I would be interested to hear of anyone who has heard a wood cone drivet

Aren't those the same that were linked to earlier in this thread retailing for 40 Canadian dollars each only a bit smaller?
They appear to be the same as the ones from Solen, but the brand name is different on the sticker. This obviously makes them superior in quality and worth the extra $. LOL. Wooden cone drivers aren't something I have ever looked into. Saw the post and was interested what people had experienced. Looked at the Solen link and thought "I've seen them somewhere before..." The $480 NZD is per pair and approx $430 Canadian. Trade Me is the New Zealand version of eBay

Hey Wolf, do you happen to remember or have the distortion profile on these Airbornes?
Not sure if they still make them but JVC was making wood coned speakers some years back. While I thought this was more of a gimmick than anything else, their method of molding the wood cones was interesting. It consisted of softening a wood veneer in sake which apparently made the wood more pliable. If memory serves, they had applied for a patent on the process.
