is best connected to the CT of the 5V secondary?
what disadvantage if I use one of the pin heaters as "+"?
thanks for the help

If your 5.0Vac secondary has a center tap, then use it. Otherwise, a great many power xfmrs don't have one.
Otherwise, I don't think it makes much difference. Then, again, may be it does. I prefer solid state power supplies anyway. 😀

Like Miles said, use the center tap if you have one for a directly heated rectifier like a 5Y3 etc. But not having a C-T, I'd suggest using pin 8 as the B+ pick off as this provides a direct connection to the cathode of an indirectly heated substitute like a 6087 or even a 5AR4.

Miles, what do you think about hybrid bridge rectification, using SS with TV damper diode tubes? The voltage loss and sag are much less than with 'conventional' rectifier tubes but you get slow start and, I understand, suppression of hash from the SS half of the bridge.I prefer solid state power supplies anyway.
