Like Miles said, use the center tap if you have one for a directly heated rectifier like a 5Y3 etc. But not having a C-T, I'd suggest using pin 8 as the B+ pick off as this provides a direct connection to the cathode of an indirectly heated substitute like a 6087 or even a 5AR4.

I prefer solid state power supplies anyway.
Miles, what do you think about hybrid bridge rectification, using SS with TV damper diode tubes? The voltage loss and sag are much less than with 'conventional' rectifier tubes but you get slow start and, I understand, suppression of hash from the SS half of the bridge.
