wiring some hanging mics

got a chance to buy a couple of open but not used at853pw cheap, but the power modules is missing on both , can i wire a connector on the end of the cable (these mics just have tinned bare wires) and run it into my mixer or phantom powersupply or is there some electronics in the module i will need, if not how long can the cable be before it goes into the mixer/ps . Our church is kinda old and the cables will have to be ran for about 50-60 ft before it can be conneted to a mixer or phantom power supply. can i run into a power supply and then add ext cable to the mixer (20 ft or so)....

see picture its like the mic on the rightwith just wires no connector


looked on Audio technica web site, and email support not really much

I believe you just have to add a XLR Connector, You will have to figure out yourself which wire is Hot,Cold, and Ground.....

These mics aren"t really ideal for Music recording as being electret lapel mics they have a Fairly low SPL handleing and a Limited Frequency responce.....
 
heard back from audio technica they replied -----
"The power module must be used. The module will operate off of any phantom power between 9-52V DC. A power module does three things.
First it steps the phantom power down to an acceptable level for the FET in the mic that powers the element (this is usually around only 5 volts), second it matches the output impedance of the microphone and third it balances the output. The mic line from the microphone itself to the power module is not balanced. This is why we keep the line relatively short. An unbalanced line is prone to the pick-up of electromagnetic interference. Any additional length needed in the way of cable should be made up with balanced mic cable from the output of the power module to the mixer. The power module that came with this mic should have been a model AT8534(A) wall/ceiling plate power module ""---

I don"t think you really have to do that...You can easilly build a Curcuit that will step down the Phantom power and Ballance the output....I have several such designs that I use for Powering electrets off of Phantom power....

I just would have thought that AT would have put that curcuitry inside the the Place were the Capsule is housed as Putting that Curcuitry at the XLR end of the Cable will Make it more prone to Noise and Interferance......

the mic i have has 6 wires, 2 red twisted together , 2 yellow twisted together , and 2 shiled wires twisted together.
so if a xlr connector is wired
Pin 1 is the earth (or shield)
Pin 2 is the +ve (or 'hot')
Pin 3 is the -ve (or 'cold).
then would
mic red wire connect to bottom of R3
mic yellow wire connect to top of R4
would the shield wire connect stright to pin 1 of xlr, or where

according to dirgram of mic cable red wire is +, yellow is signal and of cource shield is the other wire

would you also have a phantom circuit layout?

I believe the twisted Pairs are there to help with interferance and it is Good that the ground wire is shielded.....

as for the Curcuit Layout it is Pretty easy to do yourself as there are less than a dozzen Parts.....

If you aren"t good at PCB Layout let me Know and I will design a simple PCB layout for you.....
