The material used for potting at times is hot glue, which can be easier to remove.
Brief touch with hot soldering iron will melt it, a good way to check.
Potting compound is used to protect circuits from the environment, and is usually difficult to remove.
Once I used a hammer and chisel on a damaged fuel pump....broke the Pentawatt chip inside.
Blow lamp (heat gun 1000W) did not work either.
MEK should be used in a well ventilated place, I would place a fan behind me to push away fumes and vapors, preferably work outdoors.

Merhylene chloride is not a paint thinner, it is the most efficient paint STRIPPER and given enough time breaks down even epoxi.IIRC methylene chloride is a car paint thinner, worth a try as an epoxy solvent.
Because its unproper use has caused multiple deaths it has been banned in the EU.
Looks like it is no longer available since 2021 at stores. Good thing I have a whole gallon in case I need it
MEK is still widely available in the US.
* It is banned within my household since I was foolish enough to mix a small amount of polyester resin In the kitchen.

I hope you store it in a proper container, the plastic bottles (not sure what kind off, felt a bit like PP) i got the stuff delivered in, guaranted only 6 month of safe storage. Just to make sure, I refilled into dark pharmacy glass bottles and replaced the cork sealing with teflon,
Chloroform is stored in brown bottle with glass stopper as found in lab equipment. You have to use only in well ventilated environments. Also rubber gloves as it dissolves all oils from the skin. Avoid breathing it 😵 😴. I use it in a flat dish with mess stand in it and the device is placed on the mesh with chloroform below and only the vapour is usually necessary to break down potting. You need to protect the part that you do not want to dissolve, for this I use a small prophylactic or rubber glove finger cut off.

I think this is a lost cause- Fluke A55 Thermal Voltage Converter. Someone well before I got it did not respect the .5V max input and fried the thermal element. I opened it to see if I could mount a new vacuum thermocouple. I don't think Fluke would just squirt Silicone over everything but maybe. It makes this essentially impossible to repair. Its Mil Surplus to it may have been repaired once before. The manual says to return to factory for repair.Silicon cures in cross linking, sorry, use mechanical means.
Try a scalpel blade, those are really sharp, to remove, essentially use the action like a cut throat razor at the last stage.
Sometimes a knife with break off blades may not be sharp enough.
This is dangerous, the blades can slip and inflict deep wounds, be utterly careful.
I tend to use those knives with just the tip out of the housing, about 3-4 mm when doing this.
One of my workers needed stitches in the wrist, cut blood vessels due to knife slip.
We mostly use 'finishing' blades now, cheap double edged blades like the old 7'O Clock shape...no ties to any names mentioned here.
