One solution for your touchy touch pad. Disable it, and plug in a mouse. I've never actually liked touchpads, and find a mouse easier to use. Wireless mice are inexpensive.
I am a desktop person, love a keyboard and mouse.
I use a laptop as backup. I found at first I was dragging fingers on the touchpad while trying to type and moving the cursor.
Then I put in an old W7 upgrade disk that I have previously used and activated several years ago. I turned off "activate when online" and did not activate the W7. Over several days and 200+ updates, the "upgrade to W10 icon has appeared.
That's an interesting scenario. I wonder if W10 would activate in that case.
Good question. Have you asked Cortana for an opinion 😉
Cortana is disabled..😀

Looking on the web,
Edge is supposed to be more secure<<<obviously it has a sand box..🙄
Playschool again..😕

Anyway:Start settings privacy inking Cortana..OFF
So I might give it a Go! The shaky hand reaches for the shortcut... not that I doubt Microsoft's capabilities at messing things up er I mean making a complete mess..er what are the words I'm looking for ..er oh that's it a c**p job oups good job of it..
On the edge of reason..😀..Perhaps it was designed by Bridget Jones..

For those interested Classic shell works on windows 10.
Classic Shell: Downloads
Set the skin to smoked glass and away you go..I also tried the uninstall and it puts the original W10 menu back.
😀 >>no more tiles..LMAO
I had to try it and what a sigh of relief. Windows 7 again..
Why they never made the option to completely remove the tiles in W10 is beyond me..a simple check box would have done.

Apparently Microsoft tried to block Classic Shell,
Microsoft to block Classic Shell in Windows 10: here is why
Something to do with yet more data collection..
Well the install worked on mine just the start menu toggle doesn't work ..but who cares..
OK found it shift and Win button opens the W10 start menu.
Or you can select an option to have the win key open the W10 menu.
After just 5 mins I now realise how completely useless the W10 start menu is...where is the all programs button? (all apps) win8 yuk. YMMV..😀

Is Edge actually secure for online banking?.......Good question. Have you asked Cortana for an opinion
Come on now, don't we all know Cortana's obvious response?????? "Please give me your credit card number and I'll get back to you!"

I much prefer a desktop myself, and a W7 (or XP) desktop at that. I got the laptop for those places where a desktop isn't practical, like a car, hotel room or some other place where I have to sit and wait for an hour or more. A mouse and external keyboard isn't always practical, although I do carry them in the computer bag.
I actually carried a mouse, keyboard, 20 inch screen and a 20 volt LIPO battery with me on my last trip to Florida. I got a few funny looks with it all set up at the beach working on a PC board layout!
Since the last two commercial laptops that I have used were major disappointments, I am thinking about building my own. It would probably get me on the no fly list if I ever tried to ho through an airport, but I rarely fly anymore. Requirements list.....hardwood case, maybe 50 watts of audio power, decent speakers, 20 inch screen, real keyboard and mouse, at least two hard drives, one of them a large SSD, 16 Gb ram, midrange processing power, at least 4 X audio inputs at 24/96, MIDI I/O, and enough battery to run it all for at least 3 hours. 2D 1080P graphics are sufficient since I am not a gamer.....
.....can you buy this at Walmart? I don't think so. Can you build it, well the prototype is sitting on my workbench. All the hardware works. I actually started this in my Florida woodshop class almost 2 years ago. Never finished cutting all the wood, and some of the wood may have been lost in the 2 recent moves. Sadly Intel had decided to exit the PC motherboard business, and the MB I have had become an unsupported orphan. Too bad. It and the 20 inch screen I have will run directly off of a 22 volt 5.5 AH LIPO battery from a model helicopter.
Thanks for the link, Chris!
I consider myself very lucky to have never installed W8 on any PC...
In my case, if MS stops support on W7 it will be over for any Microsoft platform for me...
Yes, I'm leaning that way too. I'm starting to think any USA platform is mega spyware and invasion of privacy whether its an OS or social media etc. Ironically my pick of the Linux flavors out there is Deepin, which is Chinese, and even ubuntu has a phone in the works I recall.
still waiting for my update from W7, I reckon the newer Win OS stuff gets higher priority. who knows... that's the whole theme for Windows > trust them, you don't need to know what's going on.😕 Trust and free software hmmm...Is apple any better at this?
due my vast computer experience... older hardware and the newest OS is not really a good idea.🙁

If you really want it do this!
If you wait for the auto install you will probably wait for ever..
Don't bother with the DVD just update this PC..

It will fit in the size wise limits at the gate no problem . On the real airlines not the second tier ones not so much . How the shop coming up and running ?Come on now, don't we all know Cortana's obvious response?????? "Please give me your credit card number and I'll get back to you!"

Thx
I'm not in a rush yet, some say wait for the 1str updates ... besides there must be some rational reason for Windows to be putting me last for their freebee.

Yes your computer installation is somehow incompatible..updates etc missing.
If you follow the link you can just install it its what I did.
I decided to grab the bull by the horns or I would be using SUse. The only reason I use windows is it is required for my job!
But W10 just looks like big brother to me! I have never seen so much spyware!
If I could windows and me would be parting company..the days of the PC being a helpful tool are long gone. (this is just the start)
NB service pack 1 will be windows 10 version 2 (win11)

I read somewhere that a major fix is already imminent for 10 (days away) to address some of the problems that have come to light.
I'm just sitting back and watching it all unfold and FWIW I couldn't get the Tech Preview to install as a clean install on a modern Dell laptop (i5 processor) and yet it would install on an 8yr old Acer laptop after jumping through hoops to correct a video driver that installed part way through installation each time. That caused so many system interrupts that the final 5 minutes of installation before the desktop was reached was taking 2 hours. The Dell just plain objected and would require a hard switchoff to get it free. I tried an update install on the Dell for fun and it took 7 hours and was unusable.
The simple reg fix for W8.1 I mentioned earlier has freed me from the GWX icon and any W10 nags in Windows Update.
And dear old Vista keeps on chugging......

I'm always worried about upsetting my PC. I've got legitimate copies of Windows 7 Ultimate and Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007. Should my computer die and I have to do a fresh install these CD/DVDs have been used too often and I would have to purchase again.
For the time being I'm leaving well alone with a stable copy of Windows 7.

There is no limit to the number of times you can install/reinstall from genuine discs. At the worst, you might have to go through the automated (free) phone activation.
I'm always amazed that so few have system image backups. Not only do they save having to reinstall from scratch but you can keep an image that is just Windows and nothing else (but kept up to date with updates). That enables a clean install to be performed in under 20 minutes and you can then proceed to install the latest versions of any programs you have.
System images are great... you can try stuff out... anything and have no worries on putting it all back as it was.
