Windows 10

My laptop got "upgraded" all by itself on Wednesday. It is still working and I have not resorted to wiping it and putting W7 on it yet. W8.1 almost brought me to that point several times. After dropping a laptop in the Pittsburgh airport security line a few years ago, I never keep any critical info on a laptop, so wiping this one would not be a big deal.

This morning I got an email from M$ explaining that it was time for my machine's upgrade. There was an explanation, and instructions as to how to download the image and burn a DVD for upgrading any or all of my "legitimate" W7 or W8 machines. I downloaded and burned the disk. I think I will pop a fresh SSD in the sacrificial machine, install Vista on it and see what happens if I try to "upgrade" it.

My real question is how did this machine get upgraded on Wednesday if my upgrade wasn't supposed to happen until today?

Might be of interest,

Old Windows 7 Calculator for Windows 10

I also installed VLC media player..😀

I got sick of waiting for Microsoft to allow me to down load it so I used this:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install

I don't see the point of a clean install unless your PC is really that full of junk..just import the favourites from your old browser and Edge seems good to go turn on the home button and favourites bar job done.

Just a shame you can't move the home button to the other side..

My desktop gadgets also run..

And the faithful tube clock..😀

ITunes works many don't use it I do!

I think its Media Centre that you lose with 10, Media Player is still included. It's the acres of bland white screen I don't like, W10 being to my eyes extremely unattractive to use.

Anyone missing the old Oberon Vista/W7 games such as chess titans etc?

Upgrading from Mountain Lion to Yosemite may not work on older Macs. Maybe better to go with Linux. Either way they are free unlike Micro-rippoff-soft.
If one purchases a copy of a quality defrag and registry cleaner for Windows, the licence only lasts for a year. Purchase Mac Cleaner for Mac and it is updated for free for the lifetime of your Mac, as are all OS updates.
Why would anyone want to go backwards to Microsoft, I cannot understand.
There is an app in the Mac app store, all so far for free, that runs all of my peripherals.

IE running slow on Windows 10,

Try this:

Right click "this PC".........properties............advanced...........performance settings............advanced.............virtual memory.............change.......custom........initial 1652....max 1652..set....OK......restart.

Install adblocker plus. 😀..disable on google search. <<<set as start page.

I also notice the Num lock has the same glitch as win 8.1 where if you have a sign on page and use numbers as your log on if the num lock isn't on you can't type your password in using the top number keys..😀 (yet again)

Set default browser:

Here's how to set your default browser in Windows 10 - CNET

I just noticed the microphone is active as default so I disabled it...I'm just suspicious of someone listening to me say credit card details as I type..YMMV unless you use it..

Easy right click on volume control..recording devices..etc

If your wondering how I noticed I have a VU meter app that's linked to the sound card..

Both 'Edge' and W10 are works in progress imo. The inability to use accelerators with Edge (such as Bing translate where I can swipe a word or whole page of text on a web site and instantly translate it) is major drawback.

Its going to be very interesting to see if W10 keeps its shine and develops or whether the wheels fall off 😀
