So, its arriving in a couple of days, although beta tests have been running for a while.
Anyone tried it?
I'll be downloading once W10 is available. See you on the other side!

I am really dragging my feet on this as I am still running xp and was in the process of changing over to 7. I did download the beta version and gave it a casual glance and it seemed ok. But just taking a quick glance it looks like it takes a lot more hard drive space. As I have a couple of spare hard drives I am going to make 2 clones of my windows 7 drive just in case I want to go back to it. I think I read once you install it you can't just uninstall it which is why I am going to keep a couple of clones of my drive first.
A little googling shows that you can expect problems if you use Nvidia graphic cards and two monitors.

Chris - precisely what functionality that 10 offers are you presently suffering the lack of?

Just Fit a Fresh Drive for the New Win to install on, preferably an SSD type.
I did and it was Simple enough. I can revert to Xp simply by unplugging the New Win C drive before boot up Bios recognises the previous C drive and boots up Fine.
Albeit, being XP it takes minutes to boot /shut down as opposed to less than 5 secs each way with the New one.
That said I revert to the XP increasingly rarely. Likely never again in a month or 2.

I found my new motherboard and processor wont run XP.
It wont install just crashes out with errors.
I was horrified as I have a couple of old 16 bit programs I use a lot.
I found out in the end Windows 8.1 32 bit will also run my old 16 bit programs so panic over. So I run W8 32 bit on one drive and W8 64 bit on another drive.
I will give it a few weeks before installing Windows 10 to make sure most of the bugs are out of it.

I agree. I currently run Windows 7 Ultimate edition on 4 machines and have no complaints.
On June 29th a white icon popped up in the system tray offering a free upgrade to Windows 10. Free? Really? How much will this free upgrade cost me? 😀 I declined and a follow-up message said that I could still take advantage of the free offer for the first year after the official release date.
I have been developing software for Microsoft Windows professionally since version 2.11 and, using previous versions as reference, I strongly suggest those interested in Windows 10 to wait until Service Pack 1 is available. Unless, of course, you are the adventurous type and want to help Microsoft debug it. 🙂
Until recently, I used Win 7-64 Ultimate and tried the Beta of 10 as a developer. Had a few issues with externals; Nvideo graphics, no support from Symantec as yet and printer drivers. Windows, in Win10 will make their money on perriferral software and hardware as all users MUST pay $119 for each new build across the board and there will be no running pirated software without Microsoft knowing you are!
I cured all these problems by running OS X Yosomite on my new iMac. Why I put up with Windows sh1t for so long, I will never know. Now all updates are free of charge and most new software is free!

I won't try it until there's a way to block/hack this.

I have used Windows 8 since it came out, now on 8.1
I have had to reinstall it a few times when things have gone wrong.
It did seem to settle down after a while.
Recently it started playing up again but a restore fixed it.
Now it has started having a big delay between starting and the desktop icons appearing.

I have Macs with Tiger, Snow Leopard, & Mountain Lion. Looking at a new machine that will run Yosemite. I can also boot the Snow Leopard machine into XP. I hate doing that. I'll probably upgrade to W7 under Parallels.

I wouldn't do it unless you had to… it still has some bugs that are a major pain to some people. My rule is don't upgrade unless you have to.

I just read in a computer mag about last minutes problems with Windows 10.
It appears to have a few bugs.
I do have a little sympathy for Microsoft being a software developer myself.
I have developed software since 1980.
The main thing to do is test and test until it works properly.
I have seen so many times companies just get software working and out the door to make money. They then start about debugging it using their customers as guinea pigs.

So, is it considered safe at this point to upgrade from Mountain Lion to Yosemite?

There are other cures, as well. I cured all my systems well over a decade ago.
The vast majority of users have no real "need" to run Windows. Why they do is a mystery to me.
If you want an idea of the extent of problems Microsoft has with their software take a look at their forums. There are many thousands of messages regarding problems.

OS X 10.8 was the last cat. Instead of calling 0S X 10.9 House Cat or Pussy they changed the naming scheme to cool places and called it Mavericks after the California surfing beach.

Yes, I've been involved in the Windows Insider program on and off. My view of W10 is that its evolved to the point of pleasing no one. Its visually the most unattractive OS I've seen even if the basics under the bonnet are good.
Anyone running W7 or W8.1 has the offer of a free upgrade to 10... in fact if your systems are up to date then you should have the reservation icon on the system tray. Having upgraded you then have the option to clean install from an ISO image if you wish.
I'm not going down the 10 route at this stage, primarily because W8.1 is 'so well sorted' and W10 seems like its going to be a work in progress for a long time to come.
You can't even turn off auto updating (we suspect that wont change either) and so you are forced to accept whatever comes along update wise.
Its gonna be fun though.
