Windows 10

That was in response to your several comments in which I believe you denigrated or at least criticized e-mail programs without making a specific recommendation as to alternatives, and to suggest that there are lots of reasons why folks, particularly those in a business environment might stick with something that works for them. - i.e. W7 and MS Office

There is no such thing as an absolutely inviolable firewall or virus / malware protection.

The files I'm taking about transferring are on the same box, and for my own use, so external solutions would be rather pointless, no?

If the files are not HUGE then use dropbox or google drive. If you also want use a thumb drive they work in all sorts of machines.

And having a UTM firewall is pretty much the business standard now, if you don't have one, research what UTM does and how it can help you 🙂

p.s you don't buy them at staples either !

I have had another NEW issue since installing Windows 10.

My computer occasionally won't boot, it will get through post but then tell me no OS is installed.
OR
My computer will POST and boot but instead of getting the login screen I just get a black screen and the monitor shuts off.

Both of these issues are corrected by rebooting the machine, I have never had it happen 2 boots in a row.

I guess we just got used to Outlook (not express) as part of the full MS Office (2010) suite. Like I say sometimes you just want the simplicity of software in the office that will play nice with all the other kids in the sandbox - particularly as I said before, the accounting / payroll.

We'll likely not upgrade the OS until such time as support for W7, the availability for drivers for replacements for worn out printers disappears, or the motherboard on PC gives up its magic smoke. In 25yrs of operation, that's already happened more than once.

As Nigel bitched about above, I'm not however a fan of IE - except for 2 Government agency and on-line banking software that don't seem to like Firefox, I avoid IE like the plague.

Outlook will work on any os, you can move your .pst file to any computer and settings. OE on the other hand is a but more work and a PITA..

Outlook is what businesses use & is the best!

Chrome is nicer than FF !

I can't believe we are discussing win10 SAAS crapware.

win7 will have exploit support to 1/14/2020.

I've tried W8 ... no added speed , BS features - no innovation , at all.
My reading on W10 "features" impresses me even less.

Vista - win10 , all the same NT6x ... just added mobile BS after W7.
OS

No "flaming" war ...

But modern operating systems and most software vendors have other interests (and background workings)
more important than that of their customers.

An example is (below). That is a 3 gig Win7 64 bit. Still 3 gigs after
2 years. Most win7 's will "bloat" to >10gig after a short time.
Windows/SXS will keep on growing and growing.
PS- mine replaces redundant with new updates - does not grow.
Why did M$ not fix this "bug" ? No , instead created an even more
self expanding , redundant mess with Win8 and 10.

Chrome does the same , every update just leaves the last 1/4 gig
7zip update in your appdata folder. Chrome got bigger than my
whole Win7 once !!
Chrome is also becoming more intrusive. Even with ad/tracker blocking,
Google was still targeting me through their browser. "Don't be evil" my
ar$e.

I don't have any issues, then again my firewall is locked down really tight. Did you know YAHOO is one of the most data hogs of the internet ? Since blocking *.Yahoo or stats.yahoo.com etc etc, my bandwith has gone down at home & less other crap.

Blocking all the crap that goes out helps too. No more pop ups or adds and other stuff.

Funny thing i surf youtube lots, and im in a hotel right now and it sucks 🙁 i see so many ad's and bloat ware etc etc. Can't wait to get home, i knew i should have setup my VPn tunnel to tunnel my traffic from home..

I could post graphs and data showing you what you don't really see from a normal " store bought POS router.. Because really that's all they do they ROUTE that's it.

W8.1 does manage the SXS folder aggressively, something previous versions did not.
