Wouldnt it be possible to lock the wiki pages to avoid this kind of stupidity?

It could be possible to limit the acces to edit the wiki pages to those whom have serious buisness to do there by only letting people whom have been granted acces by a moderator edit.

Or do we have a backup of the forum?

Not everyone has a website

It is difficult to include pictures which can be the difference between understanding or not understanding a complex point

You yourself say you got stymied on more than one occasion because you could not quickly figure out how to create new pages.

The Wiki should encourage people to take good content out of the posts and put it into the Wiki.

Agreed, it should do but it does not. Good information gets buried in the posts and becomes difficult to find.

not every one has a webpage.. No true.. but i am offering still to members and people of this form free webspace and there own picture gallery. : O)

Yes Free..

How do I add a page to the Wiki?

I'd like to add a bass horn faq page. It would be based in part on questions on bass horns that have been posted and competently answered. There is so much discussion of bass horns that its tedious to work through it all in a search.

I don't understand why editing is different with the wiki! Why can't it be the same as posts regarding scripting/coding etc. IOW, write wiki pages in the same way as posts are written, but allow everyone to edit.

Another question: what happens if someone decides to delete good pages just to be annoying? Could the info be retrieved? The idea that someone can just delete it is a bit of a deterrant to put in some effort.

You just write something in a page like "SandBox". Those capital letters will create a new file(page) and the link will have a "?". I suggest that you click EDIT and just look how you should write, then you can fool around in the "Sandbox" page.

You might also check the "help" pages.

The wiki thing is a database and you can actually rewind and undo your misstakes.

You have already a bass horn page. Maybe you can add your FAQ in this page?

Basic Editing

Hi,

I want to add a page so I can link from DIY Basics.

For Example, You're on the DIY Basics page. You want to add a page under it with info. Do you have to link to the outside world or can a page be created inside diyaudio.com?

I'm used to editing with text files and put them in a folder somewhere as .html or other.

thanks,

vince
