So, I promised someone a pair of PBTL cards with TPAs/UCs installed... and I can't figure out who. Whoever this is, can you PM me? Thanks.

Current state of things: Everything's mailed out except atoluma's order, waiting on the DK order to come in with thermal pads. Might be in tomorrow, fingers crossed.

I'm working on a proper manual/document for the Wiener cards, something that's been sorely lacking.

That was quick.

Just got a text from the girlfriend, Digikey order just arrived at the house with the thermal pads for atoluma's build. Packaging them up tonight, mailing them out tomorrow and "Wiener group buy 2.5" is officially done.

The Commando

Still have to rewire the pot to make a change, but this is it. Sounds incredible completely blows away the other (supposedly premium, but china) TPA3116 i have .

The card is 6ohm model, set to 1200khz pwm frequency, 1SPY mode, 20db gain. The pot is a 10kOhm ALPS which seems about right. Powered by Linear PS@ 19V, JDSLabs ODAC revA, feeding ascend cbm170se and a dayton 12" split off the odac.

Thanks gmarsh for all your hard work on this project, we really do have a "wiener" here...

Not bad for postage speed!

Repairing an amp right now for someone, assuming it's a quick job I'll kick off the next group buy this coming weekend.

I'll be building:

- Stereo wieners V2.0 (only change is 10 pin terminal block w/input grounds)
- PBTL wieners V1.0 (happy with the design, no reason to change)

I'll also be ordering 5 or 10 bare PCBs for the "Wiener Pro" TPA3250 based amp. That card is going to be a prototype, and may have issues. If anyone wants to gamble on getting an early one, which may have some wire bodges or worse done to it, there'll be some available 🙂

All boards will be available as bare boards, TPA installed or fully assembled.

Pro is a stereo board. I'll have to work out how to preprogram microcontrollers for it, I use a SOIC socket to preprogram them for the normal wieners but the pro uses a TSSOP microcontroller.

gmarsh, still no sign of my order. It's more than a month since you shipped it.
Damn. Sorry. Canada Post claims "4-6 business days to major urban centres" for the small packet air service I'm using to send it, so I'm gonna assume it's lost if it's been that long.

I'm out of PBTL cards. I just added you to the latest group buy spreadsheet, I'll send you a replacement set when the cards come in.

Just wanted to chime in here again regarding my Wiener PBTL amps. My buddy, bchristmas, sent me 1m of Duelund DCA20GA 20 gauge oiled cotton insulated Tin-plated Copper wire and 1m of Duelund DCA16GA 16 gauge oiled cotton insulated Tin-plated Copper wire to use as hook-up wire. I used the 20 gauge wire for the input going from the RCA jacks to the Altec-Peerless 15335A bridging transformers and then to the Wiener amp differential inputs. This replaced some 20 gauge cotton-insulated Tin-plated Copper guitar pushback wire I had purchased from Angela Instruments. I then used the 16 gauge wire to connect the amplifier outputs to the speaker binding posts. This replaced some vintage Western Electric AIW 16GA 16 gauge cotton and plastic insulated Tin-plated Copper wire that I also use for my speaker cables. I would never think that small length segments of wire would make a difference in sound quality, but it does. I first read about this wire on Jeff Day's "Jeff's Place" blog where he has been working with a lot of very expensive Duelund Coherent products like their CAST capacitors. Many people scoff at the idea of wire making a difference in sound quality, but I'm a believer that certain materials can make a difference.

I was really pleased with the results I've had with the Wiener TPA3118 PBTL amp, but always felt my McIntosh MC240 tube amp was clearly better than my Wiener Class D amp. With the Duelund wire in the Wiener amp, the gap has substantially narrowed. You can scoff at changing the wire in your Wiener amps, but what I hear now is so sweet and musical and engaging. The tone and timbre detail and articulation is really improved. The depth and imaging are similar to a really good tube amp now, and the sound is so fluid and smooth. Parts Connexion sells this wire, and for $16+ and shipping, your Wiener amps will sound great.

I'm listening to Louis Armstrong & Duke Ellington, and Louis Armstrong's vocals on "Duke's Place" are so clear and full. I've never heard this sound so real like this coming through the Wiener amp--like my Mac tube amp, but the Mac cost me $3,000+ all said and done.
