Is there a point in OTL Tube amp besides eye candy (while admittedly this accounts for at least 50% of "sound quality" 😉)?
Subjecting the output tubes to such low impedance load means we lose the advantage of good linearity in triodes. We then make up for the lost linearity by designing for very high open loop gain and then apply gobs of negative feedback.. To my inexperienced mind, this is a formula to end up with solid state sound with the extra cost incurred on your electric bills from powering those heaters.
Hence, what is the advantage of OTL Tube amp compared to Solid State, if any? if specifics are needed, i'm referring to Technics variation of Futterman OTL compared to, say, D.Self's Blameless.

EMP Proof.. i use laptop and cd as my source so in case of nuclear attack, i'd be forced to pursue other hobby.
Great in winter.. i live near the equator so unless it does exactly the opposite, i'm not interested 🙂
Look cool.. yes, this eye candy i mentioned above.
Sound great.. be that as it may but does it bring any different signature to Solid State amp? If it does not and we can debate the eye-candy factor, is there a point in pursuing OTL Tube amp project? I'm not bashing OTL tube amps.. in fact, i'm at the finishing stage of one but lately i question my decision in starting it in the first place.

The whole point of an OTL amp is to remove any "signature" from an amplifier. Colouration is generally considered to be a bad thing.
If you want to add colouration you use an output transformer or use a transistorised amp which will add the colour of sand to the circuit.
Well,
very hot, use lots of power, heat the room...(can be very musical "Good sound")
however I don't think they sound like SS.
better bass?..hum depends I guess.. 😀
(You would have to do a blind test..to compare amps)
Its interesting even to compare tube amps with something like the old Pioneer A300X budget amp..
EMP proof<<well look at the rectifier...
However power consumption..comparing OTL Vs 211 PP or even SE? (room heating?)
