Okay I'd like to say that I've had this stereo (kenwood KR-A4040) receiver for about 6 years and it has served me well for listening to music but now it's kinda running a little hot at low volumes. I double checked all the wires and everything. I'm running a pair of pioneer hpm-100 speakers and recently one of them blew out and well I had a Rockford Fosgate Punch XLC 12" subwoofer laying around it's an 8-ohm single voice coil subwoofer i threw it into the hpm box and bass increased but now it runs HOT! And why is this?? Do you think the crossover shorted when the original speaker blew out? I'm suspecting this. I really don't want to lose this nice receiver. Any help is apreciated. Thanks
Does it run hot with no speakers connected ?
If yes you have a problem. Check there is no DC present on the speaker terminals.
If just this one speaker causes the heat then it sounds like a loading issue... which would need more extensive tests to found out why, such as performing an impedance plot of the speaker.

Ohhh.....okay I think I may have found the problem it was the crossover in the speaker cabinet crossover coil was shorted out the one for the "subwoofer" it was reading 2.63 ohms that's why I think my receiver would run very hot. When I got home from work I did a idling test with no speaker load and it stayed cool so it was a bad speaker crossover. I also tried out a good pair or speakers for about 20 mintues of playing and it stayed normal no heat. I was a bit worried I mite loose it.
