IME this is quite normal for Englanders...generally rude and often arrogant. My sister does not like English people especially girls because she says that they are rude
A while back I had a Geordie GF for a while...no matter how many times I asked to repeat I still could not understand her sometimes...Geordie is more a different language than a dialect....a symptom of Foetal Alcohol Syndrome ?She used to go often to Manchester for her job
For instance, she says, when she asks to please repeat slower they tend to repeat at the same exact speed.

I live in AUS so yes my AUS accent is alive and well.Did you remember to take your australian accent with ya ? ?
Dan.
my 10 years in Brabrand from 3 til 13 accent, nearly all but diappeared, when moving to Skibby. In under 3 weeks.
What makes English language so popular with kids at the point that they even tend to prefer English
to the language of their own mothers ?
This is torture on poor young kids 😱
Let them speak what they prefer. What they find easier, more enjoyable,
... am i right ?
I have read just 1 page, but I think you have drawn a wrong conclusion.
Adults have difficulty with languages but NOT kids...
Kids like to repeat and duplicate everything they see and hear...
Give them action movies, they will kick the door...
If you feed your kids with English movies, books, etc., they will accept it. Now, how much cartoon movies or games do you have in Irish, Chinese, etc.??
orr any other movie, music or what have you
in any language you might choose or be forced to take in.

My ex is Danish as are my parents...me designed in DK, made in AUS 😉.
Her mother had a debilitating stroke so she went back to DK with the boys to tend to her mother.
I ok'd this on a handshake agreement that she be back in 12 months which she did not honour....I should have had this in writing but in my background/upbringing one's word is binding...I now know better.
So my kids enrolled in DK school after 2 years AUS schooling.
In their first year of DK schooling (Grade 2) they of course topped their classes in English, but also Danish....whip smart little cookies the both of them 😎.
Danes are taught English in school from day one, and further constantly exposed to English language TV/Video so typically are fluent.
So they speak perfect English but with a slight American accent...
they will be here in two days and staying for a month...
ample time to correct that inflection.

Hi and thanks a lot for the very valuable advice and sorry for the family issues.
In all Northern Europe movies and tv series are usually not dubbed (i am watching Netflix and i guess they stream also in Denmark) and this is indeed a strong boost for the penetration of the language.
So strong that here in Norway they are worried and they have started to dub cartoons ... i would have adopted instead completely English.
It sounds also more musical i think.
No comment on Danish ... just a link ....

I prefer the movies in their original language and i listen with HPs to try to get the most out of them.
I am trying to move to UK with my job but it is not that easy.
My italian company tends to privilege engineers from India and Pakistan because they have taken their degrees in English, often studying on same textbooks used in USA/UK university.
I cannot explain how sad is to be discriminated by a national company 🙁
But i understand them. It is the market and we are out of it.
In my company and in my job (oil) UK is seen as a kind of Promised Land.
Well also Houston would do ... but that is far away.
I still hope in a miracle.
I am sure that after a period in UK my english would get better.
Not a long period ... some 20 years.
And maybe i will be able to remember when to use make or do.
Thanks a lot again for the very valuable information.
Kindest regards, gino

compliments your spelling is excellent !
Hi ! thanks a lot but i know that is not true.
I make a lot of mistakes 😱... but i am working on it 🙂
The target now is Basingstoke ... i am crossing fingers.
I hope the accent there will be understandable ...

Aberdeen ?
(Houston is nice, ABS)

Hi and actually in the past my company had offices there.
Now they have relocated them to London (completely off limits. I should be the son of a Cardinal ... ).
For Houston a kind word from the Pope is needed ... 😱
But there is this new building in Basingstoke that could be doable.
The only thing i know is that Liz Hurley was born there
Already a good reason to visit the place 🙄
As i said the problem is that we are out of the international job market (in this business i mean. An italian chief can have some chance i guess)
The Company hire us just for social reasons ... because it has to do.
Instead there are some chances for North and Central Africa ... 🙄
But the situation there has changed for the worse i understand.
Basingstoke would be perfect. Quiet place, ideal for work and study.
And i guess the accent there should be quite ok.
But first the vocabulary ... and then the diction 😉
Kind regards, gino 🙂

What about Basingstoke ? what they speak there ?
Thanks again, gino

You should be pleased that Y Gwyll has been aired on Dutch/Belgian tv.
(Last occasion I went bar hopping with Brett Pugh, he was passionate about the Welsh language. As director of school standards for Wales, he does not appear to have managed to raise the level from bottom ranking)

(last I heard, the vatican doesn't have eni shares)

Yes and still ... clearly the Church is very influential in my country.
When there is an important conference usually the first row is always for Them.
I guess as a sign of respect ...
