That must be insiderinformation, ginetto

Let's face it ... they rule ... i mean native English people.
My final proposal would be English as a global language and elocution courses mandatory for English people.
In order to improve efficiency in communication of course ... 😱
I am starting ... the rain in Spain ....

As a chem/physics major I had to take German --

I think the nicest language is to be found in "The Song of Roland" in late medieval Latin. I picked up a copy in a bookstore in Paris that had the tale in Latin, French and English.

It is hard to have an objective opinion on how latin sounds.

It is a dead language and as such there are no original speakers around.
Everybody spells it the same but pronounces it as if it were their mother tongue. A german person speaking latin sounds very different to an english person and neither are likely to sound like a roman would.

The fact that the romans used the same letter for u and v would suggest that it might have been pronounced like the english w which would make latin much softer sounding over all but nobody knows for certain.

native english people ? where have you been ?

My point is ... there must be a reference English.
Let's go back to the Reference for a standar language.
The owner of my flat is a Scottish guy ... i cannot stand his accent at all.
That cannot be english ... let's be serious.
A language like that cannot rule the world ... please.
Just think of Scotland without english language ... is like scotch without a bottle ...

P.S. sorry for the outburst ...
but here they want me to speak Norwegian
then they make loans to send the children to UK to study
this does not make sense to me ...

Since most developed countries has information, knowledge and technology and are mostly English speaking, the world will follow them in their language.

Hi and very interesting.
I would be very interested what is the attitude of Indian people towards English language.
I mean, do you love it ? neutral ? feel forced when you use it ?
Just a curiosity.
Thanks a lot, gino

So you want Received Pronunciation (aka Queen's English) to be the reference?

The most popular accent in Britain by the way is the irish one.

Not India but in Nigeria they have over 500 local languages and having English as the official language allows them all to communicate with each other on an equal footing.

I could see similar advantages for english in India but would be interested in how Hiten sees it.

The incoming Kazakhstan airline pilot didn't properly understand the air controller's warning

English can let you down. Back in February 1978 at an airport here in BC, the order went out to "Clear the runway!" Now, most people would take this to mean remove thyself from the area as a plane is approaching.

Not the case if you're a snowplow operator. Only 8 survivors.
