For direct-radiating loudspeakers, adding ways is probably the most common approach to limiting modulation distortion (AM and FM distortion).
Fully horn loading all drivers (not just the midrange and tweeter but most importantly the low frequency drivers) will effectively eliminate modulation distortion--pushing down the modulation sidebands by 20-25 dB (using the same drivers in horn loading vs. direct radiating at the same output SPL on-axis).
