Why aren't my smilies showing up?

When you click the [More] under the smilies the words (or what you type) associated with the symbols come up for you. So for yellow smile it's colon, close parentheses.

Okay, heres a yellow smile 🙂 typed in

Yellow smile clicked in the right-hand menu

Yellow smile click in from the "more" menu

So, neither of the clicked-in smiles work, but typed colon ) does.

That a clue?

That the problem extends to multiple computers, and multiple browsers, is super, super weird. A colon stealing demon of some sorts? Bizarre. Anyone else with this problem? Try waving a rabbit foot directly above each computer and shouting wildly at the same time.

There are sometimes innovative workarounds for computer problems - YouTube - Crazed Office Man

Seriously though - what OS, OS version, browser, and browser version are you using?

I've noticed that I'm also having this problem! most of the time I only use two smilies 🙂 and 😉 which I always type. I've noticed lately when I've gone to do some of the others that I didn't know the code for off the top of my head that they weren't present after posting. The really weird thing is that they do show in the edit box if I do say the 😱 smiley by clicking on it it shows in the edit box however if I press preview post it disappears. It isn't all smiles though. below are all of the smiles at the right of the advanced box clicked on left to right top to bottom: 😛😎:house::Present::2c::tons: as you can see some of them remained after a preview but a lot disappeared...

I've attached a pic of what the edit window looked like before I hit preview post.

OK well the above shows that it isn't OS related (this is my winxp laptop) and it isn't ISP related (I'm on my wireless connection).

I'm still using firefox 4.0

So that is two computers, two os'es, two browsers and two ISP's what is common? My userid... shame I can't test with another on either of these pc's.

I just type them usually

Lets try 🙂
and 🙂 from the smiles box
and :xeye: from the more smiles

Just a thought... is it anything to do with later browsers (I'm thinking IE9) and problems that are fixed by running the site concerned in IE9's compatability mode. Do other browsers have that option ?

I have had weird forum problems just posting text (not diyAudio) where that has been the complete answer.

ok so I've just downloaded google chrome lets see how it fairs...
🙂🙁😕😡😛😉😀😱🙄😎:house::Present::2c::tons:

Hmmmm I can see this one is going to work without even pressing the preview post button! The smileys have been pasted in as their text equivalents.

Both IE8 and firefox show the graphic in the editor box, Chrome shows colon confused colon for 😕

I'll have to check if there is a compatibility mode mooly, I'm sure this is something that broke after the optimisation of the site though...

Using FF 4.0.1 smileys appear in the text box when I click on them in the smiles box, but vanish when I hit the Preview Post button. When I type them they stay. 🙂 😉 🙁 😀 😎. From the smiley drop down they stay also.🙄 :2c: :tons: OK it's just certain ones in the smiles box not "sticking", 😛😎:house::Present::2c::tons: namely the wink, big grin, embarrassment, smile, frown, confused, mad, roll eyes, EEK etc. 😀

😛😎:house::tons::2c::Present: <<<<from the right of the box <<<<<<<<<<this was all the smiles

😛😎<<<<<<<<<<<from the more box this was 7 of the more smiles

Strange isn't it!

It seems that some are blocked?
