I vote one size fits all. We then can see how many members will sign up for the pulley. This was essentially the approach that was taken on the motor.
I suggest we go with a bronze, crowned pulley with a diameter Vinyl-Addict and Mark agree on. The quarter mounting plate could be optional but the pulley design would accommodate it. Then see how many members sign-up. If the number is sufficient to make it worthwhile for Vinyl-Addict, or some other machinist someone knows, then its a go. If not then we are on our own.
My two cents.

motor orders
To those of you who want to order motors, you have to send me an email, or I'll have more work on my hands sorting you out..
Since Mark is already dividing components into bags , I guess it's time to set a last date for Motor orders.
I won't order any motors that are not paid for so, I'm giving you all until midnigth gmt , may 16 . to make and pay your orders.
Everyone that have made orders should now have recieved a payment request. Email me if not.
( a note on the side; 1 US $ now worth 5% less compared to the norwegian "krone" than it was when I calculated the $90 price !
If I withdraw the cash from my paypal account after the motors are sent , I stand to lose $100 , at the least. The solution is of course to keep it all in the account and spend it on mailorder gear, kits and components. I'll have no problem doing that ! ) 😀

I guess I forgot to mention choice of material. I would be willing to offer brass or aluminum, sorry, no bronze.JRags said:

Pulley metal
My mistake, I meant to type brass. Looking back on previous posts I see I have said bronze on more than one occasion.
Thanks for highlighting what is possible. From my experience and from what I have read, brass is the metal that reduces resonance transfer through the platter and tonearm. Aluminum tends to ring.

Indeed the dollar has gone down quite a bit against the euro as well. How much extra would you like me to send to you?$90 price !
Vinyl Addict made me an aluminium "pulley" with grub screw attachment which I am using on the prototype motor (an 110191).
I can detect no runout at all, nor can I detect any change in the (incredibly low level) motor noise when the pulley is attached or removed. I could detect a change in the motor noise when I relubricated the bearings with synthetic oil (Mobil 1).
I said "pulley" because this is not being used in a belt drive system, it's driving a Garrard 301. For those interested, with the heavy Garrard platter and the stiff grease bearing the motor pulls up to speed in less than two seconds. It has more power, more torque and a better speed / torque curve than the original Garrard motor, despite being about one fiftieth the size.

I now realize that the "note on the side" in my last post may have looked like request for more cash. This was not my intention.
I'll finish the order, calculate my losses, and we will take it from there.
Hallo All,
Just a little note. If you are still interested in a pcb but have not given your name. Just post in this thread and Mark Kelly will get back to you.
"anyone who wants to be on the wait list for PCBs or kits should post to the thread and I will contact you through asylum email asking for your email / paypal address"

I agree, one size fits all should be the way to go. In terms of specification i would be happy with the consensus.

I may be able to help with pulley production as well. I work in a shop that has a Cincinnati Hawk CNC lathe. I work with solid works every day so models are not an issue. I wasn't sure how vinyl addict was going to produce them, but there isn't much better than doing everthing in one setup on an NC. My boss is a great guy and would not have an issue letting me have a little machine time.🙂 I will talk to our machinist on Monday to ask about the best way to make this with our tool set.

Mark it's a problem to downsizing my order to six boards, four friends realized their motors aren't suited for this controller?

Patriz, no problems, I'll amend your order to 6.
MJounot I already have you down for 1. Do you now want 2 ?
hov you have mail.

Hi All
Regarding the pulley, my vote is for an aluminium flat pulley of 0.665" or 16.9 mm diameter to suit the width of a mylar tape belt. I believe this diameter will suit the controller design if the platter diameter is about 12" or 300 mm. I am not sure that a crowned pulley will allow the use of a mylar tape belt (something I was hoping to try). I hope that a flat pulley instead of a crowned pulley will satisfy those who use a rubber belt (or other type) to drive the platter. Hope my use of jargon is OK.
Perhaps it might be time to start listing some of the proposals to find out where this is going.
In brief, the following comments have been made (I paraphrase below, but with no intention of changing the meaning of each post).
JRags - voted for bronze pulley (actually meant brass as stated in later post) of 11 mm diameter with crown heights of 6 and 14 mm (to suit custom TT with sub platter). Later suggested that 17 mm may be best. Also stated that pulley diameter should be agreed by Mark and Vinyl-Addict.
john2 - voted for pulley to suit LP12.
Markqall - open to what everyone else decides.
Seth Hensel - seconds motion that pulley diameter should be agreed by Mark and Vinyl-Addict.
superhkm - seconds motion that pulley diameter should be agreed by Mark and Vinyl-Addict.
kevinchampion - happy to accept one size fits all by consensus of the group.
It appears that Vinyl-Addict and DaveM are candidates to make the pulley.
Hope this helps us move in the right direction.
Mark, I will keep track of the votes if this helps.
Cheers

A crowned pulley will not work with tape.
Pulley Question
Will a flat pulley accommodate a rubber belt? If not, does anyone know where to source a mylar belt of a custom length?
Regarding diameter, a 16.9 pulley will work for me if it works for Mark and Vinyl-Addict.
My preference is to get a pulley, specific to our groupbuy motor, that is built by a dyiaudio member; rather than, as a last resort, using a local machinist in my area who knows nothing about the art of constructing a turntable motor pulley.
Please vote....

I'll also go along with whatever the experts come up with. But it would be nice to have something as flexible as the BIX type pulley. I can use fishing wire...videotape...and other smaller tapes...
I agree, I would like to have the pulley to be able to accept tape and some type of line also. This would be a flat pulley with a small vee groove I assume. Would the flat pulley also work with a rubber belt?
