Everybody so far has missed the level of power required for a car subwoofer(s) to surpass outdoor concert bass levels.
Big powerful SPL car subwoofers can handle many thousands of watts each, some of them are capable of 5000+ watts. There are amplifiers that will do 15,000 watts. Some of them will use multiple amps this size.
Vehicle cabins also will have a resonant frequency of between 30hz and 50hz depending on the size and length.
So, the cabin with its windows down are now essentially an enormous resonator. That's literally why cars get loud.
The truly loud car audio guys will tune their enclosures to the resonant frequency of their vehicle, and can meter above 160db inside the cabin.
160db at 30 to 40hz is moving a LOT of air.
The car audio guys that shake the building you're in when they drive by are the high power guys like this.
Your 12" JL w3 on 500 watts in your sedan is not anywhere near this level.
The current SPL world record level is 185db.

I wonder if the medium through which the energy of lower frequency is dissipated is involved. Our bar had an awesome sound system 11Kw+, (2 x18 + 4 x15 subs+ (6 x 12" bass). One of bar staff lived 2 blocks away. She couldn't hear the music from inside her apartment but always had a scary feeling - Godzilla was out there somewhere and he was coming for her.
My point being: it takes a lot energy to produce sub 20hz bass. A truck idling outside your house may not sound very loud but it can rattle windows and move furniture like a poltergeist.

Most project cars in my experience appear much better dampened than PA bins. Those huge flat PA panels should smash a hatchback

We have worked out that the PA doesn't due being able set the bass beam length. Weirdly only for bass, the rest of the spectrum keeps going kilometres
A car with a powerful bass box and a few kw is effectively a huge 10 m3 8th order BP with a 12 m2 passive radiator-port tuned to 40 hz
I find "infinity" a somewhat hard to use engineering tool..... It tends to complicate things a bit....decomposed into an infinity of sinusoidal
Infinite resolution? Infinite Spl? Infinite Bl? Infinite mass? It kind of side rails everything into religion and philosophy and deep late night talks centered around a herb usually smoked.

This has beeen explained in quite some ways before, but the thread starter wants to point out that car subwoofer driver are "better" than PA driver for PA use, as he is using them in his personal PA construction(s). Just like some PC subwoofer he modified for PA use. You may have hit a point when you mention smoking herbs. Cronic use has consequences.

Or intentionally sourced a cheapest one,?

But replacing the stock driver with an 18tbx100 solves the weak link.
One local DJ swapped his etx failed drivers with the 18tbx100 and he's a happy camper.
Besides me other Members recommended that to a guy in the thread below.
He loved it.😎

Failing rate 90%
330 18tbx100 ... manufacturers price 150bux
Failing rate 5%
He better spend 45 bux more and forget about more blown drivers.
And besides it was a proven working option that was tested by many people.

it can be that for live events the pa loudspeakers are are cut off below 50hz.

Some observations . . . Pink Floyd, Sly and Robbie are . . . well, really old. Their tracks have no sub-bass. 41hz is about as low as you're going to get. This frequency come from an ELECTRIC bass guitar. The only other sub-bass frequencies come from the kick drum - not ELECTRIC.
During a concert the artist producing the most un-amplified dB is the drummer. Due to the slow nature of bass it makes sense that kick amplification is minimalised during a live performance.

It's much cheaper than the 12W7 and goes low. Looks to offer the size of output down low that I am after but can this work in a 80-100L 33Hz ported box? It just might be the high power driver that I am after

Zero suggestions for any workable drivers and folks getting their knickers in twist that pro mobile drivers offer some promise on paper and urban experience
Are you ready for something constructive yet? How about just one suggestion for a driver to nail average 115dB from 30Hz and with a clean note sweet delivery. Box is limited to 80L external. Try to do so without dipping into the pro mobile world and pulling on the power arm of the law

looks like the 18TBX100 don't like stuff smaller than 134 liters
at 100 liters theres a nasty spike
comparing 133 vs 180 Liters you can see that 180Liters is 3dB (2.8dB to be exact )
more efficient than the smaller enclosure
and 3dB is like doubling your power
1st pic shows nasty spike at 100Liters
moving to 133 almost get rid of it
2nd pic show the advantage of a matched Vas
almost 3dB more efficiency
anydriver can be stuck in any cabinet , thing is that the more matched you are with the TS parameters
to your target volume and Fs , the more efficient your outcome will be
is a juggling game between cabinet volume ,driver and target Fs
if you need moaaarrr SPL!! just add more cabinets and amps 😀
