Hi All,

I have a project (yet another one) perculating in the back of my mind> I would like to use a old TT for parts to build a DIY TT. By parts I mean the motor, the platter bearing and the platter. Which TT would you use for parts? Thorens? Dual?

If it was a choice between Thorens or Dual... i'd pick the Thorens. I have built both. One from a Thorens TD160 and one from a Dual 505.
Although the Duals can be had for much cheaper, the motor, platter and bearings are inferior to the Thorens...I can't speak for the 12xx series though. My last DIY TT was built from a Rek-O-Cut, the bearing and platter are very robust, the bearing is very quiet. The old rec-o-cut tables show up on ebay often, although sometimes overpriced, it's a crap shoot with them. They also come with a very large and quiet Pabst motor. Just check ebay often, you might stumble accross some parts you're looking for, every once in a while a VPI(or something similiar) platter and bearing show up, I just missed a set that went for under $200.
Good luck.
