I am currently designing a small speaker to be set on a microphone stand. The enclosure will probably be cast in a special concrete-like material stuffed with some fibres to make it lighter.
I'm not sure how to design the location on the enclosure that will be screwed on the stand. Solutions currently encompassed are:
- a thread insert made to be hammered in wood like this one
- another type of thread insert, maybe better for a cast but I have doubts about the mechanical resistance
- a thread insert with a plate, to be itself screwed into the enclosure (bigger footprint)
- a hole with a shape adapted to a nut (easiest solution for a cast probably)
What do you think?

I would simply cast in a flange nut. The nut should be cast in closer to the inner surface of the enclosure where the flange goes inside of the compound. The flange will keep the nut always in the compound and also add more surface so the enclosure does not crack when tight mounting it to the stand.

I would use this one 219 Thread adapter | Konig & Meyer
Get a plate with 1/2 UNC thread for the inside and cast around that.

Concrete takes compression forces well, but not other types of loads.
I would tend to sandwich two plates together using bolts, and a rubber gasket on each side against the concrete material.

Please tell me if the representation in the attached diagram is correct (sorry, couldn't make it appear directly, don't know why). So, the metal places are sandwiched only. There's no other tie between them and the thread insert?
